something else that's great about floyd is how he keeps everything together

his physical tools are completely in sync with his abilities

If Floyd's defense was so overrated against those three or four fighters you mentioned he would've lost to them.

And, his true gift was being a smarter fighter than the others he faced. He knew what to do, and how and when to do it.

You guys hit it right on the BUTTON! His style is so tight that he sometimes will use offense as defense and visa-versa...I don't think he was more defensive or more offensive on purpose, but he uses what works best.

Also, He fought champions in those 5 weight classes; so the fact that there may not have been many super-huge names in those weight classes is not his fault...He beat who he had to beat, and he looked GREAT doing it!

In my opinion, he is the BEST fighter Alive at this point in time! Best P4P with very fast hands (which he can choose to use as defensive weapons or offensive weapons) depending on what his opponent falls for easier.

In regards to defense, I don't think Mayweather Jr. is over-rated in the least...He hits without getting hit often, and that is the magical meaning of boxing in my eyes....Hit without being hit! Many other boxing purists don't appreciate this type of fighting and they would rather have a person BARELY win a fight than a landslide victory (ie. gatti vs. ward as apposed to mayweather vs. baldomir or any other opponent he decision win)....

And as the last poster has stated...His true talent is his smarts...he knows what to do to get the WIN in the "w" column no matter how boring or exciting it may be...AND STILL be the "pretty boy" at the end of the fight.

Seriously... The guy is good.. He is difficult to hit, never mind hit cleanly..


But is it all smoke and Mirrors??

What I am asking is.. Guys with a Bit of speed have been able to Tag Floyd.. Corley, Judah, Augustus (Burton)..

Where as His Supreme defensive efforts were against Guys Like .. Old Gatti, Baldomir (slower than a Tortoise) , Hatton.. Compared to Floyd, Slow and One dimensional..

In the Lower weights Floyd Fought much more offensively and aggressively.. so while his defence was on display.. His Offence was his REAL talent.. Even Guys Like Castillo could out punch him.. He won back then with offence..

Floyd is a Smart Fighter.. and Guys Like Hatton,Gatti and Baldomir never had a chance..

I guess what I am saying.. is that Mayweather IMO, Is overrated defensively based on 3 or 4 Fights against very speed challenged fighters..

His true Gift is his Offence .. and this proves he is a Bit chicken, for not being a more aggressive fighter and taking fights where he would need all his offensive arsenal to win..

His, is a very well managed.. but disappointing career

well a way to break a good defense is speed. Floyd's has great defense, but this is Boxing, youre going to get hit either way.
