HBO rejects Ishe for Angulo fight

Smith would have been an interesting fight, although it wouldn't have been a very entertaining one, it would have been interesting to see how Angulo would have dealt with Smith's style. I doubt Angulo will fight anyone too dangerous now, not many top guys will take a fight with him on a little over a weeks' notice.

The last time Ishe Smith was on HBO he stunk out the joint against Sechew Powell. I'd rather not go down that road again.

I agree. It was Ishe's fight to lose too because Powell is totally ordinary. Once Ishe learns that he actually has to throw more than 30 punches a round to win fights he should do well though. The sustained action just isn't there.

Smith would have been completely defensive and not offer anything back in return. He would have made Angulo look bad and the sport at the same time.

What about Grady Brewer? He's training for a fight in Oklahoma (that used to be a secret) on February 28 so he could be reasonably ready. He won The Contender, that's gotta mean something, right?

It was meant as a joke, Corley is a 140 pounder. Queen Leia has something against the Chopster.

BTW, Corley won by 7th round TKO, his opponent's corner threw in the towel.

I'd prefer to see Kassim Ouma, Alfonso Gomez or Joe Greene step in. Maybe even K9 Bundrage.

How is Greene doing healthwise any better? I think Gomez said he wants fight @140 which he should with guys his size. He would be more competitive matched up with Torres, Harris, DHop, Figueroa.

Smith is what you call a "gym fighter." He looks like a million bucks in the gym but put those lights under him and he falls apart.

thank goodness they did. replacing Mayorga with Ishe Smith is pretty much a total 180 in the excitement catagory.

Im still good with Angulo vs. K-9, personally. unless someone like Kassim Ouma would like to step in.

Haven't heard from Greene, I'll call his people up and get an update on him. Gomez will always be Gomez so I don't think he'd fair too well once he steps back up in class.

I can't argue with that. Ishe's style isn't very fan friendly. But he's never been blown out and that's what I'm sure will happen to Gomez if he gets the fight. So you can either have a potentially boring 12 round fight or a total squash match.

Ishe Smith doesn't just make his opponent look bad, he makes himself look bad. He would just drain the energy out of the fight.

Brewer stunk up the joint but atleast he comes to fight usually. I'm just trying to look out for myself because I had to sit through the Powell fight live in NYC and I'm not about to sit through another Ishe Smith fight at ringside.
