    Nigel Benn Underrated Chin

It's always been said that nigel had a great punch
    but a weak chin

but I disagree watch the eubank and mcclellan fights
yeah he was dropped twice by mcclellan but wasn't
mcclellan regarded at that time as p4p the hardest
    puncher in the sport

watch round 8 of that fight and tell me benn had a weak
    chin

I'm not saying it was great but it was certainly solid

the weak chin stuff came from his fight with Anthony
Logan(which looked to me like a slip)

and Logan hit him with like a 20 punch flurry in the second
round and Logan was renowned at that time as a very hard puncher
to which benn responded with an awesome let hook

to me throughout his career he displayed a very solid chin
not the best but certainly not as bad as it is portrayed

Benn was usually at his most dangerous when he was hit on the chin and badly hurt.

He never had a weak chin at all..
He could be tagged but you would have to finish him
or the man would come back stronger....

Benns chin wasnt bad at all,but his defense was shocking at times because he was always completely concerned with knocking his opponents heads off.My favourite british fighter of all time.He was a real fighter IMO

I think the Watson fight made his chin look worse than it was because he punched himself out in trying so hard for the KO, and it is easier to knock out a boxer who is exhausted. Watson-Benn bears some similarity to Ali-Foreman in that respect.

IMO the McClellan fight showed that Benn did not have a bad chin, at least at 168. It wasn't iron, but he took a hell of a lot of punishment in that fight.

Him changing to become more of a boxer-puncher also meant using less energy and leaving less gaps in his defence, so that probably helped as well.

You could say that about any fighter though. I dont believe JMM or Trinidad,Corrales have good chins, but what they do have is lots of heart and desire and that more often than not is what not pulls them through.

Benn was not only rocked by McClellan he was KTFO by Eubank and ko'ed against Watson he was wobbled by Perez,Galvano,Barkley and dropped by De Witt and Logan.
