Not that I wanted to see Hatton get into a hugfest by any means, but the minute they got close he split them up. Enter Bernard Hopkins-Joe Calzaghe where Hopkins clinched constantly and Cortez does nothing. Then of course there was the Soto incident. Cortez may have once been great, and regardless of who he has/is teaching, he himself is slipping currently and I'm not the only one that see's it. Good post though. I never knew that.
All hatton wanted to do was hold and hit...that is how he iniated his offense. Hopkins clinched to diffuse Pavlik offense when in a bad situation, not to start his own offense. Cortez did a good job in the Mayweather fight and usually does a good job. he ain't nothign but fair and firm. and Juan diaz and JMM are both of Mexican descent. JMM logic all messed up!

Cortez disqualified Soto for hitting when his opponent was down but in Marquez first fight with Pacquiao, when Pacquiao knocked Marquez down for the third time Manny hit Marquez when he was down. Maybe that's playing in the back of Marquez head.

because Marquez looked so out of it by the 3rd knock down right? have you seen the fight? if a ref would have stopped the fight after the 3rd kd seeing how marquez looked, he would have gotten burned by the fans. no ref would stop the fight after the 3rd kd uness the 3 kd rule was in effect which is almost never used, especially for big fights.

JMM is crying about refs now? He is biased against mexican fighters? I guess he wouldn't be a good ref against a mexican-american fighter? GTFO! Juan Diaz via 10rd stoppage of another P4P fraud!

Good call by Marquez; it's about time an important boxer is rejecting Cortez as a ref. Cortez has screwed up or interfered with too many recent fights to still be working big fights...
