After the first round of the Golata fight, Jim Lampley issued this advisory:

"As we go to Ruiz's corner, we reminds any of you who has not seen John Ruiz fight a great deal before that the language in this corner may conceivably be more profane that what you're most accustomed to."

Hilarious considering that Ruiz is the least aggressive, least motivated fighter I've ever seen. Ruiz and Norman Stone are polar opposites. Consider the less than confident/assertive manner in which John Ruiz claimed to be the best heavyweight at the press conference against Toney. He didn't believe that for a second.

If Norman Stone couldn't push Ruiz to go out there and fight, who could? I imagine that Teddy Atlas would have assaulted him or quit him the first day.

Stone was entertaining, and I don't necessarily blame him for the whole Ruiz debacle - that's really more King's fault, he's the one who got Ruiz his undeserved ranking and all those title shots he cheated to "win." But the fact remains that Ruiz was a fraud who cheated in just about every fight he had against decent fighters - and when he didn't, he lost.
