Dawson offered to fight Kessler, search it on the website, you'll find it somewhere.

So then why is willing to go down to fight Williams at 168 who hasn't fought at that weight?

My original point was, that it's strange he wont fight Kessler at 168 or at catchweight but will fight at 168 for Williams? WTF is all that about?

Calling out a fighter is one thing - actions speak louder than words. And the bottom line is, we'll all see in a few months who is really seeking the best fights and who is not (as if you can't tell already).

dawson offered to fight kessler at 175, after kessler challenged him first....i'm pretty sure of it.

he hasn't "called out" PW yet. all he said was in the future he wants to fight him. obviously a lot of other factors will have to work for that fight to even come close to being a reality.....but what it sounds like to me, is that dawson believes in PW as a fighter, and believes he's going to make some noise as a MW, and possibly a SMW over the next couple of years......

dawson has already stated he wants to fight hopkins AND/OR calzaghe, the two highest ranked LHW, next..........he wants to clean out the division, be THE top ranked LHW, THEN, he'll look for fights in other divisions.....AFTER HE'S DONE AT LHW!!!!!

now, does it make a lil' more sense, why he told kessler to come up, he wasn't coming down??

        • I question the decisions Dawson has made. Two years as a champion and it's been somewhat an odd road. I didn't like that he dropped the WBC belt to fight Tarver. And it's pretty pointless for Dawson to continue persisting elite fighters like Hopkins and Calzaghe. I mean it's one thing to call them out, but if they so no than it means no and Dawson should move on. Boxing isn't as popular or rich as it used to be. The only way to get BIG money fights is to win against credible opponents, than it sets the stage for the elite fighters. Boxers like Manny Pacquiao and Kelly Pavlik are good examples of that. Yeah Pavlik lost against Hopkins but he fights whoever is in front him and his mandatories, I like that in a fighter.

Now Dawson has said that he wants to retire when he's 30, it makes me lose respect for him as a boxer. Doesn't he want to improve his legacy and make it one day in the hall of fame? I'm not suggesting he continues fighting till age 37, but maybe at least till age 34.

          • Funny thing is that Dawson would probably get much closer to a fight with Calzaghe if he fought and beat Kessler. A Tarver rematch isnt going to get Calzaghe or Hopkins rushing to the table.

A Kessler fight involves a lot of risk though. I'm not sure if it does get him that much closer to a Joe fight either. As it stands Joe calls the shots. I think that is he decides to fight again it will definately be Dawson, so all Chad can do is beat Tarver again convincingly and then wait and hope.

But Joe is in love with Kessler so I really think Dawson beating him would convince him

you're right. IF joe decides to fight on, it will be against dawson, as i don't think joe will fight hopkins again. so basically yea, its pretty much joe's decision whether he and dawson fights, nothing more dawson can do.

not really. calzaghe beat kessler already, so i really doesn't make a difference to him whether dawson beats kessler too.

i agree with you about the retiring at 30 thing......

but you basically contradict yourself.......you say the only way to get the "elites" is to beat credible opponents, but you question dawson for dropping his belt, to fight tarver for his?
dawson's last two fights were against probably the 4th and 5th ranked LHW's. how do you get more credible than that?

as stated in the article, dawson said he wants clazaghe and/or hopkins.....IMO, he may get calzaghe, but not hopkins. he also states that if he doesn't get either of those fights HE WILL move on, to another division. probably 168.

ROFL. That **** is pretty funny.

I kind of disagree though to be honest. I think Joe thinks he can definately beat Dawson, it just comes down to whether or not he can be ***ed. Dawson beating Kessler wouldn't make a difference I don't think. If Joe feels like fighting again he will and it will be against Chad. If he doesn't, well, that is that.

                    • I think Joe may have preferred to fight winner of Taylor/Froch. But they will be on Showtime and Dawson swapped to HBO giving him slight edge. I think Taylor wasn't resigned because he did not KO Lacy and look as dominant as he could have.
