Gomez is pretty good. This should be an interesting fight. I wish it would have happened 3 or so years back when it was first talked about.....But better late than never. I'll be pulling for Gomez but it's hard to bet against VK at this point.

I think Vitali will stop him late, but he'll need to be at his best.
Gomez won't be easy - he has excellent skills and underrated power too. He's the only one to score a knockdown against Virchis and against Samil Sam.
Against Virchis he scored a flash knockdown in an early round, very similar to Yusef Mack's knockdown of Librado Andrade. I haven't seen the Sam-Gomez fight, but I read the knockdown happened in the first round. I think his southpaw style confuses his opponents (or confuses their muscle memory) and they get caught off guard, the way Wlad was caught against Sanders.
But I should add, Virchis appeared to be sick in that fight and had lost a lot of his muscle in the weeks leading up to the fight. When I saw what Virchis looked like at the weigh-in, I placed a 50 K bet on Gomez with Boxing2005.

What Lewis said in the interviews I read was that as things stood, he had won but Vitali had acquitted himself well enough to be accepted as the undisputed champion for the next generation, so it was a good time to pass on the torch. Lewis had under-trained for that fight, and if he were to train properly for a rematch and to win it, and then immediately retire, the heavyweight division would be left in a less healthy state because it would have a less credible champion. And whenever he chose to retire, there would always be someone else calling him out. Seems fair enough to me. I don't see why there's any need for cynicism, and even if you can't help being cynical, your "it is common knowledge" claim requires cast iron proof, not just your say so.
