"Fighting Words" – What Boxing Can Learn from the UFC

It was a mismatch. Because the last 3 years GSP has fought the far superior competition. In fact he destroyed Hughes twice and Penn lost to Hughes in his last fight at 170. And since than Penn beat Pulver whos lost 3 in a row and 4 of his last 5, Stevenson whos lost two in a row and Sherk whos a quality win. GSP has pretty much dominated everybody hes fought at 170.Of course I saw the fight.
There also wasn't a competitive moment in the De La Hoya-Pacquiao fight and I thought the fight was great.
Of course, like everyone else, a competitive fight usually makes a more entertaining one, but I am also entertained by masterful performances, even in one sided fights.
This was no mismatch.
But like I said earlier, I cant blame them the UFC for doing this because they cashed out BIGTIME. They will get probably 800,000 PPV buys if not more. And with cards like Liddell/Evans, Lesnar/Couture etc thats clearly waht the UFC is about, cashing in.Comment

Another ****** MMA-Boxing article. THEY ARE DIFFERENT SPORTS PEOPLE WITH 2 DIFFERENT FAN BASES. So laser light shows and Metallica music is the key to Boxings revival? ESPN had the MMA fight on the front page when will Boxing? HUH? DLH-Pac and Cotto-Margarito was front page news on ESPN.
Boxing will be fine why the constant need to compare the two?

thats because of the large number of canadian fans that were in attendance. there won't be that kind of electricity in the next ppv I guarantee it. Canadian fans(more specifically Montreal fans) are the most electric fans in North America. Only Europeans top Canadian crowds. And I would think the MMA fans would disagree with you. That place was electric. And people were into almost all of the matches (except Parisyan-Kim) even if none were instant classics.
And the card, matchmaking wise, was far better than anything boxing's put on in a long, long time.Comment

Thats a good point. UFC 83 in Montreal was real loud and any Bute fight is electric for boxing.thats because of the large number of canadian fans that were in attendance. there won't be that kind of electricity in the next ppv I guarantee it. Canadian fans(more specifically Montreal fans) are the most electric fans in North America. Only Europeans top Canadian crowds.Comment

What can boxing learn from the UFC?
Not to hold or clinch your opponent 90% of the 5min rounds given. Damn was that main event a snoozer..Comment

For some reason boxing fans live vicariously through the purses of their favorite fighters. I've had posters on here tell me I owe it to a particular fighter to buy a PPV so his purse can swell to obscene proportions.Diehard boxing fans/UFC haters will use the excuse that UFC doesnt pay its fighters accordingly, therefore they can afford to put on better quality fights. Ok, and how is this a bad thing for its fans? If the fighters are willing to get in there, and put on an entertaining show for less money than in boxing, why should i give a ****? They make it seem as if paying them less is a bad thing for the fans. I dont get it.Comment

what boxing can learn is taking the show on the road. bring more fights to the fans. im pretty sure it will sale. have a fight with a good card in a city like new orlean, atlanta, & miami instead of vages.Comment

I find UFC pretty **** to be honest.
I watched Pride, my brother loved that ****! Pride had decent fights.
Boxing will be fine, less PPV fights could help boost boxings appeal.Comment
