Freitas was a title holder at 130 from 1999 until the end of 2003 when he finally moved up to LW. He held the WBO title
Joel Casamayor was also a title holder at 130 from 1999 until 2004. He was the other main title holder in that he held the WBA strap until losing it to Freitas whenever they fought.
Neither of these guys moved up to 135 until much later well after Floyd had left. It's actually rather difficult to say he even dominated his supposed 'best' division as, apart from Hernandez and Corrales, none of the fighters he fought there were the top guys. Certainly Casamayor and Freitas were title holders the entire time Floyd was in those divisions and Casamayor was the other 'major' strap holder that whole time.
Anyway, none of it really matters anymore. You'll have guys who say he is the best ever and those that say he blows ass. I think the simple reality is that he was a very good fighter that also had very good management and business skills but missed out on doing a lot as well in terms of legacy. I think the one big problem in terms of many of the guys he fought was that most of them had already well and truly beaten by guys long before Floyd fought them. Really, only Corrales and Hatton hadn't been. But some of his biggest wins were against guys that had been dominated well previously by much better fighters. Judah KO'd in two by Tszyu as well as beaten in his fight right before Floyd. Mitchell was old and had also been beaten and knocked out by Tszyu twice years earlier in is prime. Hernandez was TKO'd by Oscar years earlier as well. Even Castillo had been knocked out four times previous to their fight and had a pretty dodgy draw decision given him against Jonhson which was initially awarded to Johnson. Gatti was old and tired and had been beaten badly a number of times before. You know, I can understand why people think he's so good, but it's also very easy to see why people call him very overrated.Last edited by BennyST; 01-29-2009, 05:21 AM.Comment

how would you rate floyd if he had beat casamayor and freitas at 130 , spadafora and johnston at 135 , kostya at 140 and cotto and marg at 147 and maybe shane at 154?Freitas was a title holder at 130 from 1999 until the end of 2003 when he finally moved up to LW. He held the WBO title

imagine. he could have beat those guys. i think kostya in his prime can beat floyd but the kostya in 2004-2005 floyd could've beat. floyd could beat the shane from 2006-2007 as well.
130 - wins over genaro , diego , casa and freitas
135 - wins over castillo , spadafora and johnston
140 - wins over kostya , gatti
147 - wins over zab , hatton , cotto and marg.
154 - wins over delahoya and shane.

Simply no one. I see Williams doing it. Best WW and Jr MW in the world. After that stint, he fight best at 160 and 168. And finally stop Dawson's run at 175 and might do a RJJComment
