    UK Boxing scene?

For all of those who live "across the pond", what's the boxing scene like over in the UK? Is it popular? Amateurs, pros, gyms, boxers; are their a lot of participants?

In the states a good majority of practioners who box also combine it with the whole MMA trend. Me? I'm a purist. I like to keep certain things separate. Don't get me wrong, i'm familiar with the MMA fad, i just like to box.

In the UK do they put on frequent shows and venues? What about UK boxing and the Olympics? What are the Olympic boxing prospects like?

The UK is the birth place of modern boxing. We're the most passionate boxing nation in the world. It's a massive sport here, always has been, always will be.

MMA is something I don’t want to discuss, I think it's a joke

I know it's the birth place of modern boxing. What's the scene like these days?

I don't discuss MMA either, especially with unintelligent people. What can i say....only in America.

          Very good at the moment:

          Gyms have waiting lists.

We did very well at the olympics.

Stadiums and arenas are always sold out.

We have big boxing events shown on free/national television.

          Setanta sports is excellent.

Um, pretty weak to be honest ... Pretty much everyone knows Hatton, Khan and Calzaghe by name; not many of those could put a face to the name though. Other than that, Froch and Haye might ring a bell to a few people but theyre hardly celebrities; theyre pretty much only known if they end up on some otehr TV show, like a game show, or saturday morning chat thing.

It's not hugely popular but not exactly a dead sport; arenas still get filled, its just a case of us having so few boxers (and a fraction of the total population). I mean seriously, we have a handful of boxers on the world stage, but other than that its just domestic/european fighters that the public have NEVER heard of.

Sad really but i think its on the rise.

Yep all we need now is to supply our top fighters with some roids and we can be just like the Americans
