if by "softened up" you mean got his ass destroyed, then yes I agree with you. Cotto didn't soften up Margarito anymore than Williams or Clottey or anybody before them did. Margarito's power (and by power, I want it to be clear that I'm referring to illegal handwraps whenever I say Margarito's power from now on) never came into play to slow Mosley down, so he was thoroughly destroyed.

his punch out put was A LOT less in the Mosley fight. Mosley had a great fight plan and it worked. Marg's power didnt take his toll til late in the Cotto fight either. he isnt a once punch knock artist. By Mosley taking away Marg's puch out put, he was hit less, simple as that.
