Wladimir Klitschko vs. David Haye Stamford Bridge June 20/09

Excellent news. I'm a Haye fan, but I'm not deluded. I realise my man is the underdog and boxing logic says he doesn't stand a chance, but I really want to see what happens when Wlad takes a Hayemaker to the chin. I like Haye because he is exciting to watch and he has the heart of a champion, if not the chin. I won't be devastated if Wlad wins though, because personality wise he is probably my favourite fighter. The guy is hilarious.
The bet in my sig was one made more out of getting Wlad_Owns to put his money where his robotic mouth was rather than judgement. I hope he still chooses to honour it should Haye win, even though he has a new account now. I will certainly honour my end should Wlad win, provided I know which account Wlad_Owns is now using.Comment

I think it's a mistake for Haye to go after Wlad this early in his heavyweight run. It's good for Wlad to take Haye out now while he's in his prime. Should be a good fight while it lasts, but I suspect Wlad will KO Haye in 6 or 7 rounds.David Haye vs. Wladmir Klitschko at Stamford Bridge
Souce: The Telegraph
The world heavyweight championship between David Haye and Wladimir Klitschko, are near completion. The fight is to be at Stamford Bridge on June 20, where Haye, Britain's rising heavyweight force, will face, the younger of the Klitschko brothers, who holds the IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight title belts, and is considered the world's No 1 heavyweight boxer. The fight night has been reserved by Home Box Office in the United States.Comment

I would imagine the atmosphere would be intense beyond anything seen in London for years (possibly since Lewis-Bruno), but being a British crowd it might be a hostile environment for any Klitschko fan in attendance.
With that said, regardless of who wins, it'd be huge - just what boxing needs. Either a new champ gets crowned in a huge upset, or the current king dispatches of another challenger. In the long run nobody loses (or at least I wouldn't, as long as it's a good fight and a solid KO from either man).Comment

Might Haye be popular enough in Britain to warrant a stadium appearance, though? The O2 is one thing, and it seems to have had good crowds for his last 2 outings (what with arenas being boxing-friendly in general), but a stadium on par with Twickers and Wembley is a totally matter. Can they really sell that many tickets in London for a boxing match that doesn't feature Hatton?
I hope they research stuff like this first, so that the fight doesn't fall apart at the last minute or anything.Comment

It's a heavyweight title fight dude. And Germans, and Ukrainians will travel to England for that fight. If he gets 20,000 to fight Macca they'll get at least 3 times that for Wlad...probably more.Might Haye be popular enough in Britain to warrant a stadium appearance, though? There should be a lot of mainland European boxing fans come across the channel for this one.Comment
