Thoughts on if boxing is struggling and why

As an undying lover of this sport though, I can't deny that it has lost it's market appeal. I blame it on all the great fights being either on PPV or premium channels (HBO, Showtime).

Can you imagine how many fans we would have if they showed the Vazquez/Marquez trilogy on free television?

yeah, we get good fights on free TV, and believe me boxing will boom again bigtime, even stronger than its growing now

Thats all I was trying to say brother... People like to knock on the "casual" fans, but its the casual fans that make the difference between a 200,000 PPV buy fight and a 2,000,000 PPV buy fight. The die-hards are going to buy regardless.

yes, but you've chosen the one exception. Look, I'm not saying boxing is sick at the moment... I WORSHIP the sport. But its not like I'm revealing classified information. Arum, Goosen, GBP, and King have all said that the financial sector of the sport is struggling. The people at HBO have said the exact same thing. The fights are as good if not better than they have every been. The sports marketability has definately taken a hit.

Arum also cut ticket prices in half for Marg-Mosley in order to sell out the Staples Center.

Go to the 2nd page of this thread and read my post... I'm about 5 posts ahead of you on explaining myself. But the world isn't all to blame... thats why I said the "availability" of the sport... or lack thereof... is hurting it the most. Serious KUDOS need to be given to Arum for making this Marg-Mosley free tv... and dirt cheap to attend.

I hear ya, I wasn't potshotting you or anything. It's true, the sport is in dire need of more exposure.

It can continue to exist without that exposure, but as a fan, I don't think any of us can sit here and deny that we want more coverage.

Even if someone could cut a deal with Versus, to replay fights that have already happened in the last year or so, maybe once a week. If you had a free network showing fights like Vazquez/Marquez, Cotto/Margarito, Taylor/Pavlik, Pacquiao/Marquez, etc.... That would be huge.

There are just so many options for sports these days that were never there before.

That's another thing that I've been calling for, for awhile now. You can't keep giving us great main events, that are filled with "filler" fights on the undercards. You have to give us more than that.

A lot of us have already stopped paying, and turned to internet streams instead.

That would change if you gave us more than 1 fight, out of a 5 fight card, that we cared about.
