Holy cow, he'd fought 9 pro debuters and the one guy he actually fought with a winning record before facing Johnson, was 11-9-2 (against poor comp mind you.) Trust me, Johnson was green, and the proof is how much he's improved in the years since he fought Hopkins (even after the considerable losses after Bernard, yes some disputed.)
    so was calzaghe's.

As for the thread, I think going up two weight classes, not taking any warm up fights, and beating the best guy in the division while a big underdog, is a better win than Pavlik.
yea the same echols calzaghe ducked not to mention echols beat 2 of calzaghe's opponents kabary salem and brewer before calzaghe chose to fight them. calzaghe was supposed to fight the echols-brewer winner and brewer got knocked out. what do you know he fights brewer!

Daggum is the greatest of all time. He comes with the fact about Joe, no matter what you ask him. I love it.

As to Hopkins best win, I say Tarver. Skipping 2 weight classes and challenging the top guy at 41 years of age is nice on paper. It's even nicer when you see how easily Hopkins handled him.

100% correct on why I put that part in.

Wow, was Echols really that good? I don't know too much about him... I've just seen him fight Hopkins twice.

I really should have just limited the poll down to Johnson, Wright, Tarver and Pavlik I think... the rest really aren't in their league accomplishment or ability wise.

The best part is that it's **** I didn't know. Like Echols beat 3 of Calzaghe's opponents before he fought them, and was supposed to get a shot at Calzaghe after beating Brewer. I didn't know any of that.

I'd highly recommend watching the Echols-Brewer fight, that was a great 3 round fight.
