Manny Pacquiao would give Floyd Mayweather Jr the toughest fight...potentially

I know this sounds a bit crazy, but I think Pacquiao's southpaw "quick to the punch" style could give Floyd a lot more problems then say...Antonio Margarito.

Don't get me wrong, I obviously understand a person's aspect on why Margarito could beat Floyd. Margarito is strong, amazing chin, amazing stamina, would walk him down, etc etc. However I think Mayweather could solve that puzzle a lot easier then he could Pacquiao. With Margarito, Floyd could potshot and Margarito is slow to catch up to Floyd. Margarito has **** defense and Floyd could beat him.

However, I don't see that case happening with Pacquiao. Pacquiao is fast, has very good upperbody movement, and his defense has increased a lot. Pacquiao's straight left and combinations could land more on Floyd, at least for the opening rounds. Pacquiao would force Floyd to throw combinations to keep him off rather then just pot-shotting. Mayweather would have to adjust to get used to Pacquiao's speed and southpaw style. He couldn't do the same things over and over.

I think Mayweather would beat Pacquiao, but I wouldn't be surprised if Pacquiao gives him the toughest fight he's had since Jose Luis Castillo. I mean Floyd could counter Pacquiao like Marquez did in their second fight, but Marquez was still forced to throw combinations to keep Pacquiao off of him.

Even if Pacquiao doesn't give Floyd much trouble, I think it would be a better fight then Margarito-Mayweather would.

Pac's activity rate would give Floyd problems. The ONLY flaw I see in Floyd's game is... he needs a break in action to get his punches off. He won't punch with you during a flurry, he waits for a break to counter. Pac's activity rate, and the fact that he doesn't stand toe-to-toe (he punches and jumps out of the way) would give Floyd problems.

Floyd would still win... and I hate him for it.

I think Cotto's jab and overall size presents more problems than Pac. A good jab throws Mayweather off as we saw in a few rounds with Judah and DLH. Cotto's got one of the best jabs in the game, and while he's aggressive his aggression is more tactical than say Margarito's aggression which is just straight come foward the whole fight. I may be biased, but styles wise I really think Cotto gives Floyd the most trouble.

It would be a hell of a fight. Pacquiao's definately got the speed to catch Mayweather, and his lateral movement and footwork are very impressive. His defense/technical ability has improved vastly the last couple of years too. It would be very interesting to see how it turned out.

Floyd TKO's Manny if they ever get in the ring together. There's nothing Pacquiao can do, that Floyd cannot do better. They're evenly matched in hand speed, but Mayweather has much better defense, better movement and footwork, greater countering abilities, better timing, etc....

I see Pacquiao winning the first 3 or 4 rounds, until Mayweather gets comfortable. Floyd would slowly but surely begin to operate like a surgeon with his right hand lead, fighting very effectively in the pocket, countering Manny, tying him up when he needed to, and landing at an ungodly connect percentage.

Pacquiao would not be throwing nearly as much by the start of the 8th or 9th round, he'd be very discouraged because of Mayweather's countering abilities, and Freddie Roach would come in with the towel to save Pacquiao from further punishment by the end of the 11th.

Cotto does everything well. He'd be a tough test for anyone.

I agree with this. Cotto presents the biggest threat to Mayweather, should he come back.

that would make sense if pacquiao wasnt such smaller than mayweather
and yes dlh was way bigger but pac vs mayweather will actually be a close match and the physical advantages of mayweather will kill any hope for pac to come victorious

I just watch PBF's 2nd fight against a Southpaw name Sanders last night. I can tell you that Floyd will have a lot of trouble with Pac. In that Sanders fight, PBF was getting hit a lot of times by the straight left & Right hooks. PBF was still Green but still he's fighting a guy with 2-1 record at that time.

The fight looks like the 1st 4 rds of PBF-Judah where Judah has some success. Believe me PBF is Hittable. DLH, Judah & this lefty Sanders hit him Flush a number of times. Imagine if Pac is the One hitting Floyd? I think Floyd will lose focus once he got hit with Pac's straight Left. I'm very confident now that Pac will beat Floyd after seeing this Sanders fight. Even the Crowd in that Fight BOO the desicion in that fight where the judges give lopsided score in favor of PBF. I scored it a draw.
