A True Fan...

Werd.I went to a Pensacola news website, and read the article about Roy Jones Jr. fighting in P-Cola pretty soon. When I read the comments at the end of the article I saw that some don't care about Roy Jones Jr. anymore. The people used the words washed up and old. Which are true, although I think saying washed up is an ******* way of *****g it. They said who cares about this washed up has been. What bothered me is I bet those same people were Roy Jones Jr. fans 10 years ago. They loved it when Roy was the p4p king of the sport, but now that hes old and not good anymore, now its the hell with him.
I think thats ****ed up, because to me thats being a fake fan. Its like bandwagon jumping, I'll use this fighter for his prime because hes good. But the minute he starts to lose it, I'll jump to the next fighter whos on the come up. So did you ever like Roy Jones Jr. to begin with, or just his success? If you just enjoyed his winning, thats fine, but your not a fan. Your just someone who jumps on whatever is hot at that moment, to you its all just a passing fad.
ya dig..........
As long as he stays safe, it's all good. I'll always watch a Jones fight whoever he's fighting. He ain't done yet, so let him do what he feels he needs to do.

Sadly, most fans are like this. They love you when you're up, and abandon you when you're down.
Sheika is a safe fight for Roy to take to retire on, he's not risking anything at all by fighting Omar. And you can understand the man's desire to end his career infront of an adoring hometown crowd, where it all began. I think all fighters are deserving of that much at the end of their careers.
That said, there's a lot of us loyal fans out there who don't give a ****, and stupport our guys through thick and thin.
You guys with Jones, me and the others with Hopkins, the Judah fans, etc.....Comment

Please forgive my waxing a bit philosophical. I'm a little tipsy atm. No harm intended.
For the record ; I'm with MAB, Cotto, JMM, Pavlik, Vitali Klitschko and the mighty "Galaxxy Warrior" win, lose or draw...Comment

I'm a RJJ fan but not a "die hard" one like reed, truth or some of the others.....I think Roy's fans have become used to him suceeding.....Roy is one of the most accomplished fighters in the history of the sport......and his fans became some of the most fakest people alive.......EVERYBODY LOVES A WINNER and a prime RJJ was no doubt the BEST winner we knew.....even Michael Jordan lost from time to time, but not Roy! So just like those Chicago Bulls fans of the 90's the same can be said of some of Roy's fans.....they were NEVER fans.....just bandwagon riders! So as long as its dudes like reed, truth and wess(REAL RJJ fans) those fake ones will always be exposed for what they are and were from the start........NUTHUGGERS!!Comment

people calling jones washed up is so annoying to me,these people are NOT jones fans,or even boxing fans! **** what he cant do now, just enjoy the memories of one of the most talented men ever to lace on a pair of gloves.few fighters were as good to watch as roy was in full flow,so to quote the film gladiator,"are you not entertained?"Comment

agreed... people do it all the time... not just with roy... with lots of fighters... i think if you were a fan, you dont just stop cuz the guy cant do what he could 10 years ago... its all good if your for his retirement already, but saying "who gives a fuc*" is fake to me... you dont care just cuz hes not the same fighter anymore, you should still wish him the best, and a safe victory... if you WERE a fan.I appreciate these posts. Real fans care about their fighters.I went to a Pensacola news website, and read the article about Roy Jones Jr. fighting in P-Cola pretty soon. I've never called myself the biggest Roy diehard, but I always admired his ability and considered myself a modest fan. Seeing Roy come out of his shell more as a public personality in recent times, that made me realize how much I actually like the guy and made me a bigger fan. So my fan status of Roy, conversely to the phenomenon you guys are indicting, has actually appreciated as his success as a fighter has slid. It's now I can regard Roy with a lot more empathy, which allows me to better appreciate his great performances and accomplishments of the past I always took for granted. Now I can see what Roy went through, the kind of impenetrable character he had to be, in order to give those performances, and who the real Roy is. His personal/spiritual evolution in that way is really quite a moving thing to bear witness to. What can I say, Godbless Roy Jones Jr. Amazing man, boxing legend.

I've never considered myself a RJJ fan. But i do know about him. He is exciting and flashy, but i never got on the RJJ bandwagon. Would it be fair to appreciate who RJJ was without being a hater? Or a fair weather fan?Comment
