This is not true, it depends on the sanctioning body. The WBC has Soto-Karass as the next one in line after Collazo. If Berto was the WBO Champ, his mandatory would be Miguel Cotto and after him Shane Mosley. Berto is no longer a contender. He must step up and take on the big fights. **** DiBella.
Berto is pretty much a contender with a belt, if that makes sense, I would call him a titlist but that's just because he has a title, he's not ready yet.

He might not be ready, but guess what, he's a title holder. That's the same belt Mayweather vacated. Berto needs to defend that thing. It's time to step it up, whether he's ready or not.

I know he needs to defend it but I doubt he'll defend it against anybody too dangerous, DiBella won't risk him.

I hear what ur saying but he's basically taken over for Floyd Mayweather in terms of being the WBC Champion. As the WBC Champion would we expect to see Mayweather fighting Luis Collazo or Quintana? Hell no. That's part of what's wrong with the sport today.

I don't think Berto could take either right now. Winner of this fight should face Clottey later on if Pwill don't come back to 147.

Winner of the fight would make more money fighting Berto since HBO has been investing so much on the young Champion. Clottey can face his mandatory which would be Zab again, lol or Isaac Hlatshwayo.

There's absolutely no way Berto will face either Shane or Tony, or Clottey for that matter this year.

                    Berto's 2009.

                    June/July- Mandatory, maybe Soto-Karass

                    Fall- Collazo Rematch.

He needs to beat Collazo convincingly before he steps up. And I think he will in the rematch. 2010 will be the year Berto steps up with the big dogs.

Don't put Berto in Mayweather's shoes, he's his own fighter and he needs time. The WBC may be the 'biggest' of all the sanctioning bodies' belts but the belt doesn't make the fighter.
