Should Americans start claiming Puerto Rican boxers as well?

You know, since the U.S. owns Puerto Rico and all...........

This only adds to the U.S's reputation of producing the greatest fighters.

Robinson, Ali, Louis, Frazier, Foreman, Tyson, Holmes, Pep, Armstrong, Moore, Marciano, Greb, Graziano, Hopkins, Jones Jr, Mayweather Jr, the list goes on and on.

But should we also lay claim to Puerto Rican legends like Gomez, Benitez, Trinidad, etc????

I've already claimed Juanma and Cotto. But seriously, Puerto Rico is just a totally different world than the US, they should not be considered with Ali, SRR, or other Americans.

        Puerto Ricans are Americans.

they can say theyre Puerto Rican, because I respect their heritage of course.

...but at the end of the day, Puerto Ricans are Americans.

I've been claiming Calderon as an American World Champ for awhile now.

Part of me just wanted to throw fuel on the embers of the Nationalistic fire that's smoldering around these parts.

But part of me is serious, it's a legit question.

Man, if only we could somehow claim all the Mexican legends as well.

I mean, as it stands, the U.S. produces the best boxers in the world, throughout history.

But part of me wishes I could claim Barrera as my own.

                  America owns Puerto Rico?
I think own is a bit strong of a word to describe PR's relationship with the USA.
Puerto Rico has its status because the people of PR voted for it to be the status it is...a Commonwealth.
We are no longer in the 1940's.
Puerto Rico officially the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico (Spanish: "Estado Libre Asociado de Puerto Rico" literally, English: "Associated Free State of Puerto Rico"]), is a self-governing territory of the United States located in the northeastern Caribbean.
With that being stated I dont believe it would add to the rivalries that make boxing fun...its like stacking two good teams.
The Mex. PR Rivalry wouldn't be as fun or any other that involves PR and the US.

I don't consider Puerto Ricans American. Technically, they are but its just a whole different world compared to america(culture, language).
