It is a massive test for Khan, however much Barrera has left in the tank. But Khans has been preparing well and everything he has done up to now, has been for a test like this. All that hes learned from Roach, Pacman and the sparring hes done in American has lead to this fight being made.

I think Khan will shine. Hes had opportunities to make mistakes in past fights and he has learnt from them. He has no reason to make a mistake in this fight now. So i think this is the beggining for Khan and an opportunity to get khan on the big stage, where he is known. After beating Barrera he will go for Presscot.

His last fight was a disgrace and now he's fightin a ****en prospect who's record is 19-1... and if by some miracle Khan pot shots Barrera for 12 rounds and gets a decision i will always rub it in fans of MAB..Based on opposition fought and especially defeated barrera should NOT be ahead of Morales in the ATG listings and if khan somehow pulled of some sort of win barrera fans will never hear the end of from me..If Roy Jones legacy diminished cause of his losses after tarver 1 then so will Barrera's if he loses to this ****en prospect..
Man, stop being so dramatic about it all. You're like a crazy yapping dog with a bone. Chill the **** out homeslice.

Khan knows (and more importantly Roach knows) he's not nearly ready for those sort of tests yet. Barrera isn't shot but he's not the fighter he was, plus he's a small Lightweight; whereas Khan is a very tall Lightweight with a very good jab. He's not trying to prove anything at Lightweight yet in the sense that you mean, but Barrera is still a huge test for him - Khan's not the favourite - and the calculation is that Khan can get a lot more name recognition and very good experience that will stand him in good stead if he can win this fight, which he'll try to do by keeping Barrera at the end of his jab.

Lets get one thing strait Khan is not a contender, he hasn't earned the right to fight any top fighter, he won't even fight the top british fighters, look at his record, Khan is all hype he's been protected from day one he made a name winning a silver medal, he looks good fighting smaller guys

A win would catapult Khan into the title zone.

Too much of a jump is the Q.

Khan has no excuse whatsover. He turned pro more than 4yrs ago. He's not a newby
That's a crazy thing to say. Khan is nowhere near ready for the truly elite Lightweights yet - have you never heard of Breidis Prescott? This isn't about proving he is ready to beat the best, this is about gaining valuable experience against a faded legend who still knows all the tricks, who will greatly increase Khan's marketability if he can win, and who is still a huge step up in class for Khan; and it's also his first meaningful fight under Roach, who believes he can transform Khan into an elite fighter, but that this will take him at least a year, maybe two. It would be incredibly ****** for Khan to fight the elite Lightweights at this stage, and Roach is not incredibly ******.

Lewis was 27 before he fought any elite heavyweights, Khan is only 21, for goodness sakes - give him a chance!

As for how the fight came about, it had nothing to do with any thoughts about Hamed. See here for details of that.
