What next for Paulie Malignaggi ?

Realistically, he was never going to beat Hatton. We all knew that (well, I know for some of you on here thought he’d win that fight). So that fight is done and dusted, where next for the Magic Man? If he can’t compete at the highest level, is it worth fighting on? Can his hands take it? I think if he moves down to lightweight he could resurrect his career, there are fights out there at 135lb that could work for Paulie, but certainly not at 140lb.

Khan, I think, would be an ideal opponent, and would generate a lot of interest, though how long is Khan going to keep fighting at 135lb? Not long, I don’t think, you only need to look at AK to see his future, once he has a few more fights under his belt, lies at 147lb. Therefore is now the right time for PM to fight him, or him to fight PM?

I’d love to see that match up, but I certainly believe it’ll have to be sooner rather than later

    Thoughts?

Unfortunately for Paulie, I think his career is over. Just watching the way he fought against Hatton, you could tell he was afraid to throw his right. When people know all you have is one hand, and that hand is basically your jab, you become an easy target. He either needs to take a long break or retire.

If he carry's on and can beat one of the top ten he can challenge for a title again, if not he will be a good journeyman for the prospects to be judged against, hard to hit, good skills, cracking chin.

Be like a slick Ben Tackie, good for sorting out the men from the boys.

          I like PM.

It’s a fact, however, that you can’t become a box office top 10 P4Pounder with only 5KOs to your name. As previously mentioned, against Hatton is just couldn’t throw the right hand with any conviction - not because it was busted, but psychologically he wouldn’t allow himself to take the risk. It's a shame, as it's the only real ch*nk (more a great big dent, than a ch*nk) in what is otherwise, very good armour.

I like his attitude though, I think most fight fans do, he's a likeable kid, and credit where it's due, he's tough, there are not many better chins in the sport. I think he’s definitely good for the sport of boxing.

As I’ve said, I think Khan would be a great match up, but other than that, im not so sure. A journeyman? No way, he's too smart to follow that route.

yeh, but his left hook was feathers too...that really surprised me, looks like he doesnt throw it with good technique, basically his left hook is an arm punch/slap. Anyway as i said id like to see him against Zab, NY fight for the fans, loads of italians and gangsta audience. Title would be LOOSER NEEDS TO HANG EM UP.

its a very good shout, Zab would be a good match up, especially with ZJ now back down to 140.

It definately smells of Carling Cup over FA Cup tho !

Yeah i think his hands are starting to effect him mentally, but there are still options out there for him.A fight with Zab would be big in new york, and Dmitriy Salita would also be good. And if not with them he could go after some titles at 140, such as Holt, Bradley, etc. But there has been talk of retirment, and if so he will of earned some pretty big money out of the game. so lets wait and see.

His career high purse was 1M$ against Hatton, and if he's not so good with money, like many, many boxers arent, then he might not have all that much in the bank. I think he's going to have to play it smart from now on..
