I agree with this to an extent..but the jab could only be so effective when ur opponent holds a 4" reach advantage over you..

right. i don't think cotto could have physically done that either. although it's very possible to out-jab a guy with a reach advantage, it's not in cotto's repertoire. ali he is not. margarito is just one of those guys you're going to have fight. cotto should have met him with his shoulder in the middle of the ring and used tight pivots to control the action.

constantly circling out wide to left, then moving straight back to the ropes was predictable, and a waste of energy. i would actually argue that that's the LAST place cotto should have fought this fight. he had some success early on because of his hand speed advantage and natural ability, but it was only a matter of time...
