But he did and he persevered, and won the fight. Margarito is a deceptive fighter in as much that he has a good jab, keeps his hands up and his elbows tucked, mixes straight and looping rights and has a crazy chin and endurance level which helps him to just keep comin and throwing tons of punches. He also executes his game plan very consistently, which is what led him to victory. You could see that he was frustrated after the fourth and fifth but he kept believing in what he was doing and when the accumulation caught up to Cotto it was downhill from there. Who couldnt be impressed with Tony's exhibition of will in that fight? But I still also think that Cotto can make adjustments to win, Tony will again have to fight the perfect fight to achieve the same results.

he fought the wrong fight, margarito fought the right fight. all that useless lateral movement, only to end up in a shootout with his back to the ropes. there are 2 ways to fight a pressure fighter like margarito:
1) control with the jab from the outside
2) meet them in the middle of the ring
if you're going to get in a slugfest, you better do it in the middle of the ring, not with your back on the ropes.

Very true, but what happens when you can't constantly do 1 and 2. You end up with your back on the ropes or in this case on your knees.
