Gamboa Seals Cuban KO Trifecta in FNF Season Opener

By Cliff Rold - Both fans and skeptics alike abound for rising Featherweight star Yuriorkis Gamboa. On Friday night at Buffalo Bill's Star Arena in Primm, Nevada, both sides got new fodder for debate. The 27-year old Gamboa (13-0, 11 KO), 126, picked up his third straight by knockout but came off the floor to do it. 30-year old Roger “Speedy” Gonzalez (27-3, 18 KO), 127 ˝, simply didn’t have the firepower to keep him on the deck nor the athletic ability to endanger the hot prospect more than once, failing by seconds to hear the bell for the tenth and final round. An early knockdown, followed by a complete domination by way of relentless, relatively light flurries and hands-down showboating?

Are we sure this isn’t a Joe Calzaghe fight?

He has the Talent and Skill. he just needs to keep his damn hands up. He got hit by a Punch that got him down wit his glove on the floor. But after his legs didn't look Shaky at all. He got speed and power. He was hitting with power the whole night but was hitting gloves and arms because Gonzalez had his gloves up the whole time throwing i think around 8 punches a round. He needs to keep them hands up, because if he's hit by a big time contender more then once, then i could see his chin getting rocked.

Gamboa was more like Fritzie Zivic then Joe Calzaghe

For all of you that don't recognize the name Fritzie Zivic he was the welterweight champ back in the early 1940's and is recognized as one of the dirtiest boxers of all time. With that being said. I cannot figure out why Gamboa never had any points deducted. He slammed Speedy with shoulders and constantly pushed off on him and threw plenty of rabbit punches. And as was noted by Teddy Atlas he even pulled down on his opponents head while throwing uppercuts. I think Gamboa is confused and thinks he is fighting in the UFC. For a moment there I even thought he might jump on speedy and start humping his leg. To me that is what it looks like they are doing in the UFC when they go to the ground. Overall I could not get passed his dirty tactics and was not impressed with Gamboa. By the way the ref stopped the fight way way to early.

I think Gamboa hits a lot harder than Calzaghe (in a p4p sense,) he just wasn't that accurate tonight.

                  Gamboa will learn.

It is good that he's is getting knocked down early... Would be better if he doesn't, but no fighter is perfect.. You learn from mistakes.

He reminds me of Tito in his early stages... Coming back from KD's to come back and win.

Stay tuned... This man is learning and he will be a force.

This is the 3rd time out of 4 fights that hes hit the canvas. He isn't going to learn, this is the kind of fighter he is. He is going to get blown up as soon as he steps up to the elite of the division.
