If Cotto losses to Margarito again...

It is these types of questions about fighters that drive me crazy about a lot of younger fans here. First off, you act like a loss to the best in the division, not pointing to you directly, (even after a valiant effort) is the end of a career. Two losses and many think the fighter is shot.
Cotto will be in the very top percentile of boxing money makers till he decides to call it quits. His style determines that, not his losses. Just like it did for Vargas, Gatti, Mayorga and plenty of others.
You compare him to Cintron. Kermit is still one of the best in the division with his only losses coming to the top dog at 147. Cotto is in the same boat yet even more highly thought of. If he loses its a set back, not a career ender.
Yeah kids
Margarito >Cotto=Cintron= idiot alert

he will keep fighting at 147 or perhaps chase a fight at 154
if mosely beats margarito (cotto-marg is happening regardless of how that fight goes) or at least makes it close cotto may fight him again as their fight together was quite even
he may fight clottey for clotteys IBF belt, or actually chase a mayweather fight if mayweather comes back to fight pacman
cotto is a good boxer and hes still young and fresh. the only real punishment he has taken was vs margo and that wasnt really that bad if you put it into perspective, people are acting like one or two hard fights can completely ruin you, they can take a bit out of you but not completely diminish your abilities...especially if you are young like cotto
if cotto-marg 2 ends badly for cotto i'd mainly worry about how he handles it psychologically, not physicallyComment

I wasnt saying his career was over, i simply asked where he'd go in the welterweight division... If Margarito beats him again, he'd be playing 2nd fiddle to him in the division...
You say Cintron is still one of the best in the division... all these guys are playing 2nd fiddle to Margarito. Just the way it is. Margaritos considered the best Welter at the minute, the rest of the guys are really in his shadows.
And please dont use my age to try and patronise me and my boxing knowledge... Fact is if Cotto losses again, I can't really see him getting any big money matches other than a potential fight with Pacquiao... Unless Margarito moves up to Light Middle.Comment

I'm trying to think what the exciting options are for Cotto if he wins a rematch with Tony. Pacquiao? Who thinks Pacquiao's handlers are going to let him near a full-strength Cotto? Is anybody getting that excited about the prospect of Cotto vs. Clottey, Berto? What's there for him at 154? Daniel Santos? Old Vernon Forrest? Paul Williams would have been the most meaningful fight around Cotto's class, but Paul can't draw ****, no longer even holds a title and if he contrives a win over Winky will be more a part of the middleweight picture than anything. A Margarito rubber match would seem the only truly compelling option for Cotto if he avenges his loss.Comment

Don't go getting huffy, my man. I haven't patronised you or your knowledge, only expressed my opinion. There is going to be a second fiddle in every division barring certain circumstances. Hearns to Leonard, Frazier to Ali are just two that come immediatly to mind. Losing to the best in the division does not leave a top fighter without options however. History proves this to be true.I wasnt saying his career was over, i simply asked where he'd go in the welterweight division... If Margarito beats him again, he'd be playing 2nd fiddle to him in the division...

What about a fight with Berto somewhere down the road? a 3rd fight with Margarito may be in order if its a close fight. What if Paul Williams comes back down and dethrones Tony, there is another option. The boxing landscape is ALWAYS changing, opportunities will arise.Comment

Williams shouldn't have to go down to fight Margarito. Williams already beat Margarito, so it's Margs that should be chasing PWill.Don't go getting huffy, my man. I haven't patronised you or your knowledge, only expressed my opinion.
