  • Can Zsolt Erdei, The Undefeated Champion, Matter?

By Cliff Rold - He owns a piece, an asterisk’s worth anyways, of history. He has defended his WBO title and that asterisk ten times. Hungarian born Zsolt Erdei (29-0, 17 KO) celebrates his 35th birthday in May, is the rightful lineal Light Heavyweight champion of the world traced back to the first Virgil Hill-Henry Maske fight in 1996, and this Saturday faces his toughest opponent since 2006. The top guys at 175 would beat Erdei IMO and I think his management knows it, I doubt any of the top guys would travel to Germany to fight him and I doubt Erdei will fight any of them outside of Germany.

Fully agreed. He knows and his management knows it, he wouldnt lock horns with a guy like Calzaghe or Dawson. Its easy for him to hang out in Europe and win hometown fights.
Id like to see it, though, if he had the balls to take a fight in America.

I doubt that there are 10 posters here that have seen his last 3 fights.

Too late to matter. The sad thing about Erdei is that he really has talent but he's the most protected champion.

Calzaghe is a lot better than Erdie though. If i was Garry Shaw, id try my best to push for this fight and even have Dawson fly over there. Another unbeaten champion would look good on his resume.

zsolt erdei is #4 on my p4p list. the only thing separating him and Calzaghe are about 8 more bull**** title defenses and a career defining win over jeff lacy.
