    Guys a serious question.

Who do you think the better fighter is, Carlos Quintana or Verno Phillips? I think the proof is in the stats with Quintana being a one time champ thus far and Phillips being a three timer (four if you count the WBU he won one time also). What do you guys think? Does Quintana's victory over Williams help elevate his status above the likes of someone like Phillips?

Phillips was too old, he was a pretty good fighter in his prime from what I have heard. Quintana is a good boxer with solid skills, Williams never faced anybody like that before.

I know. I got a couple of fellas near by that think the world of Quintana all due to that win over Williams. They dont think Phillips is in Quintana's league when I beg to differ. ****, Phillips at 40, probably beats Quintana.

At 40 I doubt it. Quintana seems like the kind of guy that gets a beating and can still recover. People act like Cotto was beating the **** out of him since round one, but the real beating came during round 4 or so. Before that Quintana was boxing smart and staying off the ropes, he is underrated.

Not to reveal my age, but I actually use to work out with Verno in his prime. I was his main sparring partner when he won his first world title against Lupe Aquino. Obviously, I know the guy personally (along with millions of others in the industry). In his prime, he was sharp. I got these guys in the gym that think Quintana is God because of his one win against Williams. When will these grasshoppers ever learn?

Interesting. I don't know much about Phillips because I have really never watched him before.

Hard to tell seriously, because both guys have stange careers.

Phillips career has been a long series of ups and downs, where at certain poits it looked like he was finished only to reemerge and be a solid top 40-50 p4p type.

Quintana on the other hand didn't really step into the "bigtime" arena of being a top fighter till he was almost 30 years old when he beat Joel Julio. Before that his career was on such a slow rise with only minor upticks. Between the age of 21 when he started and when he fought Julio he only had 22 fights.

So if you are asking me who is better at this very moment, I would probably say Quintana (only narrowly and because Phillips is so old), if you are asking who has had a better career Phillips by a mile.

Well put DarchinyFAN. I doubt if Quintana can accomplish half of what Phillips did, and I like and know Carlos as well, Im not hating on him. But if Phillips has had the more successful career (which he does by a mile), isnt it safe to say hes the better fighter therefore?

did prime verno ever fight really good fighters in their prime like cotto and williams i think not. verno has accomplished more but judging by the eye test i think quintana is the better fighter. his boxing against julio and williams 1 was great.
