if i were to sit a non-boxing fan down and try to get him interested in the sport, i'd make him watch manny....

if i pop in a floyd fight, he might not understand the technical brilliance or he might fall asleep

i wasn't going off of official ring rankings where you have a champ and #1 is the #1 contender.

i was talking about how they were viewed by the majority in their division.

gatti was not the #1 guy at 140. everyone knows kostya was #1.

oscar was #1 at 154? he had one fight at 154 in 3 years before fighting floyd.

        Vote and discuss.
Using your logic I would say that Pacman is the better representative. However when I think of P4P #1 I think of "who is the best", and when I think that way I think of Floyd.

        I voted Floyd.

when floyd fought gatti..hatton had already beat kostya....so my bad hatton was#1 but gatti was top 3 and that=pacmans win over diaz

besides......i think manny would have fought juan diaz if juan had won(mexican vs. pacquiao always sells) but juan lost. maybe pacquiao would have fought another 135 champ (casa when he had it , marquez after he took casa's belt or nate for the other belts) but oscar needed an opponent and no one turns down $15 mil. to fight oscar. i don't even fault floyd for doing that and i'm a floyd hater.
I said nothing about turning down Oscar. He fought david diaz over nate campbell who is the man at 135. Age has nothing to do with being shot. Haven't Bernard shown us this countless times in last couple yrs. he should have fought Nate like Floyd fought Castillo before him. But he is taking on Hatton at jr WW. He gets credit for that but I don't hink he has fought better comp than Floyd. He fought a bunch of over the heel HOFers who wore themselves out by fighting each other 1st. And he is yet to convincingly beat JMM.

Opps, I voted the wrong option...anyways it has to be Floyd hands down, even though his style in the ring is less attractive to that of pac's...

But when the fight was made, Gatti I believe was #2. He and Kostya was the only ones belts at the time, I think.

well seeing how Mayweather is retired, he can't be a good candidate for P4P.

But to tell you the truth, i think it's a tie.

I'm say this though. Pacquiao has minor, very minor weaknesses, it's very difficult to find Mayweather's weaknesses.

it was his first fight at 135. the guy is entitled to a tuneup no?

who did floyd fight his first fight at 135? was it castillo?

who did floyd fight his first fight at 140? was it kostya?

who did floyd fight his first fight at 147? was it margarito?

manny's first 2 fights at 126 was against the #1 and #2 guys in the division. barrera and marquez.

manny's first fight at 130 was against #2 guy at 130 , morales. (barrera was #1)

manny's first fight at 135 was against the #3 guy in the division and beltholder.

he's been at 135 for 6 months and you complain about him only fighting 1 beltholder at 135?

The lineal champ is not necsessarally the #1 guy in the division. This is certainly true for Gatti and Baldomir. Lineal is a line of succession, that is all. what about fighters who have been avoided? Do we just them to the wayside? Charley Burley, Archie Moore and Sam Langford were looked at as the best in their divisions for years without getting title shots till they were considered past their best. Margarito was considered the most dangerous fighter at welterweight, not Baldomir.
