No because boxing fans are very short sited and reactionary.
Antonio Margarito was around for the longest time, and people were calling him a bum fighter, and when Williams beat him folks were ready to scrap him. He beats Cotto and now all of a sudden bullets bounce off his chest.
Same thing happened with Wladimir Klitschko. People were calling him washed up after that rough patch he had following the Sanders & Brewster fights. He beats Peter, Byrd, Brock and some others, and all of a sudden he is king of the castle at HW again.
Vic Darchinyan was considered finished coming off the KO by Donaire and the DRAW (I thought Vic won) against Gorres. He dominates Mijares and he is back in the top 20 discussions.
I mean there are countless instances of people throwing dirt on a fighter prematurely only to have that fighter come back and be as big as they were before.
Some luster has come off Cotto since he lost to Margarito. "The Next Big Thing" type lable has been removed. Doesn't mean he cant rize from it. Boxing history is filled with guys who had an opponent (even one of lesser talent) who they just were not a good matchup for. So if Cotto loses to Margarito again, it just means he can't beat Margarito, not that his world is coming to an end.
