Got down to your local gym. Thats where it all starts. Over in England, before we start boxing we get medicalled. After all the formalities are done, we can finally start boxing in matches.
Of course you have to train for at least a 6 months- 1 year before you start participating in matches.Comment

No need for that bro. This is a forum not an English lesson. Besides, you don't need to use "start" and "first" in the statement you posted above.
To OP, go down to your local boxing gym and start training. Inform the trainers you want to box and they'll know what to do.Last edited by truthseeker1; 01-04-2009, 12:24 PM.Comment

most the people in non stop boxing have never boxed so to get real answers go to training and nutrition... but to start amateur boxing your obviously gonna have to get in decent shape, maintain a weight, eat healthy, and train for a good amount of time and then you will worry about actually fighting.
go to a gym talk to a trainer he will give you all the information you need.... good luckComment

Hit up a local gym and start learning the fundamentals. After you get a taste of what the training is like and what not, you'll see whether the sport is for you or not. Here in the States, you'll have to register with USA Boxing before competing, but all of that can be done through the gym.
You're never too old to take up boxing...to compete amateur yes, but not to practice the sport.

Over in England you have to be less than 34 years old to box at an amateur level.

It's the same thing here in the States. I think there's a Masters Division for those over that age...a lot more restrictions though.
I competed up until around age 20 or so. I'm 28 (29 this year) now. I still hit the gym twice a week though and get in several rounds of sparring. I like helping out the younger kids too.Comment
