It can't be helped... Tarver's belt was on the line the first time, so he put a rematch clause in the contract, and Tarver is making Dawson fight him again.

If Dawson refuses, he gets sued out of his mind.

This is Antonio Tarver's fault, and he doesn't have any better payday options, so who can blame him?

Yeah, it sucks, but... there's nothing that can be done about it.
But the network doesn't have to buy it.

Well right... that is the main problem.

I'm just saying the matchup itself is unavoidable at this point.

Dawson has a 1 fight period where he can fight whoever he wants. He didn't have to fight Tarver right away. The reason why this fight is happening is because Dawson wants to get it out of the way and fight on HBO.

Does it really matter when he does it?

I mean, who is next that he can fight? He won't get Calzaghe or Dawson, so... is Diaconu or Erdei going to retire anytime soon?

Do you still have that picture of the dancing owned gif? I need it.

The first fight was important but agreeing to a rematch clause was not the best thing he could have done. Its really not fair to say its all Tarver`s fault for the rematch when Chad agreed to the rematch clause in the contract.

HBO shouldnt be wasting their money on ths fight
Difficult to disagree with. Can't excuse Tarver because it's a slightly wimpy move to stick such a harsh re match clause in their, and worse still to enforce it when he was so thoroughly beat to the point no one gives him a chance at winning a 2nd time, only more embarassment. Antonio just can't swallow his pride for the good of the better man, and, better men. Chad was also somewhat silly to agree to such a harsh re match clause. He's been avoiding fights like Diaconu to face Johnson and a lot feel he lost, he raced onto Tarver instead of that re match. So it is also of his own making and somewhat deserved aswell.

This leaves a Calzaghe bout effectively out of the question for Chad. That's how things have resulted. Chad beats Tarver again, if he's lucky get's Hopkins but then maybe not because Nard should still beat him if he hasn't aged to much even then. So he's gona lose out at some point quite possibly. Odd career path Chad's on aswell in 09. He beats Tarver easy again though.

HBO should never have agreed to this though

Not true, and the reason why I didn't mention it in the article (not that you read it anyway, LOL). The fight, if and when officially official, will happen in April, not March.

I'm not sure how much blame you can place on Dawson for this fight to be honest. As DWiens has said, rematch clauses are common, it is just that these meaningless rematches don't normally happen as the beaten fighter accepts it would go pretty much the same way and takes another path. It just so happens that Tarver simply doesn't have another path right now.

You say Dawson has been avoiding fights like Diaconu. Not quite sure what that means. Diaconu is not a very dangerous opponent and Dawson has shown a willingness right throughout his short career to take on the biggest available challenges. Do you really think Johnson, Tarver and Adamek represent lesser challenges than Diaconu?
