Only 5 of the top 100 heavyweights as listed by BoxRec are currently scheduled for a fight.

    Here it is on BoxRec:

More than lack of talent in the ring, lack of talent in the promoters and managers is ruining the heavyweight division. These heavyweights need to be kept more active, or they will be more likely to gain weight and be out of shape. Not having fights to prepare and spar for, probably results in the dulling of the fighters' skills.
Chagaev is fightin an unbeaten Costa Rica dude that hasn't ever ventured out of the country but is rated 9th by the WBA. I don't think it will be a bad fight at all, Chagaev fights him then Valuev. As for unscheduled fights well christmas and new years just happened so giv em til april or march for Dimitrenko, Chambers, Povetkin, Sultan, Brewster and Gomez to make fights. Ya kno Chris Arreola might be able to fight Gomez for WBC belt if Vitali gives it up. I'd see Arreola beatin Gomez if he comes in under 240.

There is a very strong possibility that Lamon Brewster will be fighting this month, and the month after that as well.

Brewster has an exciting style, so he's good for the heavyweight division.

Too bad he had to cancel that very good heavyweight card he had set up, though.

Putting Haye straight in with Vitali will hurt the heavyweight division
I'm not saying they should have put him in with 10 bums before Vitali, but a few fights would have atleast caused some excitement
Haye will lose to Vitali and we'll be back where we started.

Haye isn't a prospect, he's the former Undisputed Cruiserweight champion, if he wants to get beaten up by Vitali now so be it. It will shut him up sooner rather than later, i'm suprised he didn't take another 2-3 fights before it to bring in some money though.

Agreed... I don't think it takes 30 pro fights before a fighter is ready for the big leagues. It's just that losses on a record wrongfully account for so much more of a fighters worth now than in times past... I think Haye will lose, but he's as ready now as he'll ever be.

It's a sad division filled with has-beens and freaks and a bunch of fat ****s. The recent two fights: "Wlad-Rahman and Valuev-Holyfield" (both a complete waste of time) pretty much says it all.

But that's not really fair, because they could have had an interesting fight, such as Valuev vs. Wladimir.

It's not the lack of talent - there were at least 100 heavyweights better qualified for a title shot than Holyfield, and at least 15 better qualified than Rahman.

But Sauerland felt he could make more money off a Holyfield fight, and the IBF wanted Wlad to fight their next highest-ranked available fighter, Rahman.

Sauerland is obviously not a boxing-fan (is any promoter?) especially Wlad-Rahman really left me with an empty feeling. You could actually see Wlad trying to make it look like a real fight, doing his best not to put Rahman away too early.
