Inactivity is Hurting the Heavyweight Division

Only 1 of the top 25 heavyweights, Ruslan Chagaev is currently scheduled to fight - and his opponent is not in the BoxRec top 100.

Only 2 of the top 80, Chagaev and Solis, are scheduled to fight!

Only 5 of the top 100 heavyweights as listed by BoxRec are currently scheduled for a fight.

    Here it is on BoxRec:

    http://www.boxrec.com/schedule.php?c...IT=Go&pageID=1

More than lack of talent in the ring, lack of talent in the promoters and managers is ruining the heavyweight division. These heavyweights need to be kept more active, or they will be more likely to gain weight and be out of shape. Not having fights to prepare and spar for, probably results in the dulling of the fighters' skills.

The problem is, when boxers have too many months between fights, they sometimes don't burn off the fat that results from eating the fast food!

It's gotta be harder for bigger guys to maintain a schedule of more than 3 fights a yr, even tho they don't necessarily have to worry about cuttin weight cuz their HW's. Unless their scorin early KO's all the time, they likely need more recovery time between fights.

But they often say they want to fight more often, but their promoters seem to have trouble making the fights happen.

Top fifteen fighters need to fight each other. Arreaola and Haye, for instance, are fighting the Klit brothers, but they got those fights without fighting their peers (Povetkin, Chambers, Thompson, Dimitrenko, Chagaev, Gomez, Peter). None of the parenthesized fighters have fought any of the others.

Exactly - in fact, many of the BoxRec top 50 have never faced another current top 50 opponent. People like Kevin Johnson, Malik Scott, Odlanier Solis and Brian Minto keep fighting clubfighter after clubfighter.

Thank you! The fact that fights occur every 6-8 months for today's heavyweights is a crying shame. I'd rather see today's HW's fight their mandatories every 3 1/2 months than wait 8 months for a supposed superfight/unification bout. Hell, unification doesn't mean the same thing today it did 5 years ago. Especially when you have organizations creating "Champion Emeritus", "Interim Champion" "Probably the Next Champion, but Not Quite Sure"...

the heavyweight division is pretty screwed up right now. i would almost welcome a seniors tour with foreman vs holmes tyson vs bowe and maybe even toney vs byrd could bring in some excitement if that tells you anything.

i feel for the klits being as good as they are and no way to prove how good or great in vitalis case but we will never know.

I've gotten used to the inactivity to be honest with you.
I agree on the prospects having to fight each other to get to the big dogs.
