Why the rematch Chad Dawson vs Antonio Tarver ?

Yeah, as you can read in the thread title.
Was this in the contract or what?

The fight is scheduled for 14th March 2009 , and honestly who wanna pay to watch this crap ?

Antonio Tarver is shot as a fighter in my opinion and Chad Dawson needs to take a step up to gain resepct and make some progress in time for a bigger fight , maybe in the summer or later.

According to this article - > http://www.boxingscene.com/index.php?m=show&id=17685 C.Dawson signed a 2 fight contract with HBO and this rematch is the 1st one (lol, what a choice) and they hope the 2nd one will be against J.Calzaghe or B. Hopkins.

I would rather see them skip Tarver and go for Calzaghe or Hopkins and the winner will meet Carl Froch...I know a surprising choice but its right on time (different weight class though) for both parties as I anticipate a fight between Dawson and Froch to happen in the UK, that would be something !

Tarver used his rematch clause, Dawson has to fight him.

He does not. He can take another fight first. Repeating myself, but really Dawson had another option before this fight.

            You guys are right.
I think that the rematch clause was a bad deal though but thats not his fault, his management sucks.

            C. Dawson really need to step up now and work on his stamina as well . If he can improve his stamina and fight 12 rd's without a problem, I think he can go all the way. He needs to improve his speed as well though.

But why bother and risk everything? He just signed a big deal with HBO to televise 2 of his fights, a loss could jeopardize all that.

He figures why not get it out of the way now, but I agree it's pretty ******.

One thing the keyboard warriors don't understand is that professional boxing is a business, not a macho contest. Dawson can't force Hopkins or Calzaghe to fight him. It should also be noted that Diaconu can't force Dawson to fight him. There's a lot of ducking going on, and I'm not sure how much of it makes good business sense.
