You get "knocked out" from your brain being rattled around inside your skull. Your brain isn't permanently set in position, it's floating around in fluids. When you get punched in the face really hard, your brain gets knocked to the back of your skull, then rebounds back to the front of the skull, you might call it "brain whip lash". Anyway, metal plates located in your face used to maintain facial structure would not affect your ability to take a punch at all.

This is very interesting. If it's true it probably answers the question as to why Cotto couldn't ktfo Margarito. I don't think he should be able to box if he has plates in his head.
