I know all about "The Four Kings" and "No Mas" and all that jazz, but boxing of the 80's never appealled to me. Loved the 80's just not hella juiced in the boxing department.

Now, the 90's i can dig. It was more of a time for the Heavyweights though. that's the class that i paid close attention to. Why? "Kid Dynamite" of course. Tyson, Holyfield, Bowe, Holmes, Lewis, RJJ, Foreman, Bryd, Toney....
Hated the 90's loved 90's boxing.
Did you just put Holmes into the 90's?? Wow he was 39 when he fought Tyson...I would class Holmes in the 80's with Sugar Ray and them. As for the rest of your post I agree with you totally....Lefty

You can't say the heavyweights of today are more exciting than the ones in the 90's.
They were saying that in the 80's about the 70's HW and then the 90's they were comparing it to the 70's HW as well....Today wer got a bunch of fat out of shape giants that lack talent.....Lefty

Yups. That's what i was just thinking. The HW of the 70's were dope as were the HW of the 90's. The 2000 HW's are weak.

Holmes? I could have sworn he was part of the 90's generation.

When did he fight ALI. '82 wasn't it?

        Aiite, Holmes = 80's generation.

Man I loved the 90's but I have to go with the 80's hands down.

These guys gave us some memorable fights in the 80's. More hall of famers came out of the 80's than we will have from the 90's

          Chavez
          Whitaker
          Camacho
          Hearns
          Leonard
          Holmes
          Mancini
Tyson (when he was REALLY good)
          Taylor
          Hagler
          Rosario
          Pryor
          Arguello
          Benitez
          Mcguigan
          Chacon
          Barkley
          Duran

          and the list goes on...

Tyson was at his best in the late 80's as well. His comeback may have been exciting but he wasn't the same fighter.

Holmes was in his prime in the late 70's/early 80's.

Actually Don King, while terrible for fighters was actually a pretty good guy for boxing, look at what he did to the HW divison. It was a shambles like it is now there was Berbick, Tyson, Thomas, Tubbs, Smith all in high contention as a prospect or a titlest. It was a boxing division, Don King who controlled all these fighters orders a unification tournament which Tyson obviously came out on top of. He organised the Middleweight Tournament that shot Hopkins from an alphabet titlest to the number 2 P4P fighteri in the world.

He set up HUGE events like the Thrilla in Manila, Rumble in the Jungle. He controlled Foreman and Holyfield both pretty huge names in Boxing and bringing in good-great PPV numbers. He managed Holmes and Duran in the 80's, Holmes was less popular but Duran's popularity was HUGE in Latin America. Boxing's popularity in Mexico also soared because he managed the likes of JCC, Barrera and Salvador Sanchez. The same goes for Puerto Rico and Felix Trinidad. He is responsible for some of the most memorable events and HUGE popularity in the 80's and 90's in his stable of fighters

Tyson in the 80's was shocking! 80's was good because of Tyson's name alone, but there were some great fights back then. I can't pick between either decade though. Both had + and - points.

Not really, corrupted people just got caught. Through out boxing its known that in the early years, most of boxing was controlled by the mafia.
