Juanma Has Four Fight Plan, Including Vazquez

Undefeated WBO super bantamweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez is mapping out a four fight plan for 2009. In the month of March, Juanma wants to make a mandatory defense of his title. He wants to return in the month of June for a unification fight with WBC champ Israel Vazquez at the top of the list. Vazquez, recovering from recent surgery to repair a detached retina, has revealed that his likely ring return may fall in June. [details]

That's a very good plan but I doubt it'll happen. I think Vazquez will want to at least take a tune up in June before going back in with the best.

Lopez and Vazquez definitely a must in 09'. As far as Celestino, Lopez walks all over him. Celestino should be Lopez's tune-up before Vazquez.

I am not convinced Lopez is as great as many are making him out to be. Exciting? Sure. Can he beat the likes of Vazquez and Marquez? Thats yet to be seen.
Some people are getting a little too excited about things he hasnt done yet.

I agree with you to some extent. The point is that JML looks like he has all the makings of a future star hopefully all the way up to 135. He definitely looks more sound defensively and even offensively than Gamboa, and comes in tremondous shape.

He has to be tested. And his test was supposed to be Ponce De Leon. Someone if I recall that has never been stopped or knocked down (I may be wrong on the latter, but i'm pretty sure Lamply said he was never been down). So stopping him in the first round is pretty damn impressive to me.

I am not too impressed with Vasquez of Marquez. Those guys are OK fighters that put on a great show but I don't know if they are great. So I say JML, based upon his energy, youth, aggressiveness, knock-out ability, and the stoppage over Ponce De Leon will expose Vasquez and Marquez as just really good fighters like Gatti and Ward (Gatti being the better fighter in his prime.)

I would really like to see the Celestino fight before the Vasquez fight. I know JML is looking for the money with Vasquez, but he has already said repeatedly that he is waiting on that fight, for it to build up to make more money. Though I think Vasquez is really just scard of JML, JML should just take out Celestino since he has already said he wants to fight and he has 2 titles.

JML, take the mandatory in February preferably or early march. Fight Celestino, who had an impressive victory in his last fight btw, to unify the belts. Then you will have more barganing power to fight Vasquez later on in the year. If he does not want to fight after that, you should call this dude out, call him names, call him a *****. Go to events where Vasquez is and get into his face you know like in the old days. If he still won't fight go up in weight and get bigger name fights. I don't think you really belong at 122 lbs anyway. Move up in weight!!!

WBO has Marquez as the #1 contender, FYI.

lotta talk going on at 122, I have to wonder what fights will actually pan out

read somewhere that due to Vazquez's surgery .. is the WBC going to strip him of his belt?

and what about that proposed Caballero vs Marquez fight?

The WBC has made Vazquez 'Champion Emeritus'.

Caballero and Marquez are still in talks for a fight as far as I know.

aight got ya, so since Vazquez got that title then yes he is stripped of the belt.

yea would really like to see Rafa and Caballero do it

would make a solid Showtime event.. as Caballero's been on the network before and it would set the table for the winner to fight either Juanma or a returning Vazquez.
