Gridiron... first of all, relax. Seems you take this stuff a little too seriously.

And second... point out one word in the piece that was inaccurate.

Whether you consider the WBA belt to legitimate or not, a win over Valuev would have made Holyfield "a" world champion. Not "THE" world champion, because Wlad Klitschko surely holds that recognition by consensus. But Evander would have had a title and, by simple definition, been a "reigning" champion for the fifth time.

So... to answer your expletive-deleted question, that's what I was f***ing talkin' about.

Dear author: I too feel the same as you in your nicely written article. Tyson was an intimidating monster and the Holyfield fights were HUGE with anticipation and excitement. I do have a problem with your referring to Danny Williams as a "C-level tomato can" though as Danny has a very good winning record and was British Champion if I'm not mistaken. So he didn't make it at world-class level. He manfully took his ass-kicking from Vitaly and showed balls+. Your hyperbole is somewhat understandable but let's show some respect.

"Tomato cans" have losing records and are professional opponents, no?

Ok. No ****. Professional boxers are professional boxers. Wow. Groundbreaking stuff here. Although, I'm not sure I agree with the poster's assessment of D. Williams, Boxing fans have every right to judge fighters. It's what makes following the sport fun.

Mike Tyson is a first ballot Hall of Famer. He was the standard for all HW from the mid-80's until now. He is what we want from our HW Champ! He went for the KO and took his beating if he didn't get it. If he hadn't left Rooney he would have been the best.

Tyson was 'superman', the strongest man in the world, the most feared, likeable (pre 1991) and was an icon.

who do we have today? Boring wladimir and vitali, valuev and a string of has-beens and never-were contenders all vying for glory.

I've ran into Tyson a couple of times at fights down in Hollywood Florida and the guy in genuinely nice and knowledgable (about boxing at least). He does have the attention span of a two year-old when hot chicks are around, but Im not much better so I can't blame him. I started to get interested in boxing playing Mike Tyson's punchout. My father never followed the sport (hell the 1st fight we watched together was Calzaghe/Hopkins, and he fell asleep), so it took a videogame to get me involved. I was hooked on his fury and as a young kid believed he was innocent of **** (how ignorant was I). He brought me into boxing, but someone like him would be the only way I would ever leave boxing, and I doubt that will ever happen. I miss the era of Mike Tyson, but not necessarily him.

I've never been fortunate enough to meet him but everyone I know that has says the same thing, that he's a nice guy.

I really don't know what to say when it comes to Mike. So much goes through my mind I don't know where the hell to start. But he was exciting not matter what happened. The sad part is, if he was to fight today, the place would seel out in minutes.

People always say Mike Tyson ruined boxing. What they don't realize is Mike was ruined before he knew what boxing was.
