Except hes one of the best welters of his era.

But I guess you're not feeling Hagler too much either.

He would have to do what he did against Margarito the 1st time but do it better. There is no way that Cotto can knock Margarito out... so the only chance is by a decision. Last time Cotto tried to be on the defensive more and hit Margarito with counters... trying not to get hit as much as he possibly can. If they have a rematch... I think Cotto will have to one again try to stay clear of Margarito, stay on the defensive, and try not to get hit by Margarito as much as he possibly can... but do it better than he did in his last fight... otherwise he will be in the exact same position as he was last time, but probably in earlier rounds. Cotto can't take Margarito's power... so he will have to make sure he doesn't get hit.

Miguel Cotto's a natural southpaw, he should work up his stamina, stay off the ropes and dont try to ko margo, just win on points. Maybe he should switch from conventional to southpaw every few min to throw off margo.(Peace)

Boy I'm glad none of you are trainers but her is a realistic look at Cotto's only real chance at winning the fight.

He can go to the body and maybe just maybe it will slow Tony down. If it doesn't then you have a repeat of the first fight because everything Cotto did in the first fight was perfect except that he couldn't get Tony off of him no matter how much footwork, and solid punches he landed.

I agree he has to look for body punches, and I agree he has to have the mindset of going the full 12. That said, he should still put effort into hurting Margarito when he can, he just cant let his ego get to him the way he did in the first fight.
Also he needs to stay off the ropes, keep the fight in the center of the ring. Circle instead of backing up, he cant stop in one spot and let Margarito unload.
He better come into this fight in the best shape of his life, and as hungry as he has ever been. If he does this I think he will win the rematch. Cotto is an adaptable, well rounded fighter. Margarito is not. Cotto has to make that the difference.

So in otherwords he would have to put in an almost Superhuman like effort that no fighter has ever put on in the history of boxing.

I might be wrong but i think you are asking just a wee bit much from a mortal person.

No, thats not what I said.
Step 1, preparation. He has to come into the fight in better shape than before, with better strategy.
Step 2, execution. He has to be hungrier than he was last time, and fight the smarter fight.
Thats hardly "Superhuman", its just what Great fighters do to win rematches.
