So why do you like MMA? Is it because it is two people trying to hurt each other without any particular skill? If watching a bar brawl is more entertainment than watching two skilled athletes compete does this mean that you like MMA because the combatants are not terribly skilled?Speak for yourself. Ever since a kid, whenever there was a street fight, everyone would run over to catch a glimpse at whats going on. Where im from, people would rather see 2 guys go all out in a no holds bar street brawl, than watching two guys dancing around eachother, flicking jabs and trying to box eachother for 15 minutes. But hey, to each its own.
This is what I'm getting at: Most street fights involve little skill, so by likening MMA to streetfighting are you suggesting that MMA is not skilled or are you suggesting that streetfighting is somehow more skilled than the participants let on?
I would personally see "realism" as a negative.Comment

Are you trying to give me a history lesson here?
So it is because of the lack of refinement and because of the violence, that is what draws you to MMA?
I know you said "the majority of fans". Are you part of that group or are you trying to distance yourself from the "majority of fans" in a failed attempt at feigning refinement and sophistication?Comment

[QUOTE=deevel79;4526437]Let me start by saying that im a boxing fan before im an MMA fan, but I purchased last nights UFC card, and felt that i got more **** for my buck than most recent boxing ppv cards.
Alright, you may get more **** for your buck but what about main events? Yesterday UFC was promoting their card as a 3 card main event and all 3 were crummy imo. I have never seen a MMA fight that is as exciting as a highly anticipated boxing event. Not even trying to knock MMA but has there ever been a good give a take fight between two of their top guys like boxing has done many times. UFC may stack their cards but when it comes to major fights nothing is more exciting then two highly skilled boxers fighting.Comment

you liked last night's show , deevel?
i hated it. good thing my friend paid for the ppv and not me.
i watch mma for the grappling. i'm a big fan of jiu-jitsu and judo.
anyone find it strange that there was hardly any grappling last night?
i think there's some funny business going on. just pure talking out of my ass right now......no facts whatsoever......but it was strange how there was hardly any grappling.
i think dana instructed those guys to put on a striking show for the casual fans. something funny is about.Comment

[QUOTE=checkmania;4526468]I wish that boxing broadcasters on this side of the atlantic would take the same approach as those in England. The ppv cards in England tend to show a really good selection of fights from four round debutantes to ten round journeymen with a twelve round title fight as a main event. You would get seven or eight fights on a fifteen pound fight card. I just think that HBO's $50 pay per views with two twelve round fights are a bit of a rip off. It would cost very little extra to show some 4, 6 and 8 round fights in addition to the main event. Fighters on those cards aren't going to ask for any more money because they need the exposure! I don't understand why it isn't done.Let me start by saying that im a boxing fan before im an MMA fan, but I purchased last nights UFC card, and felt that i got more **** for my buck than most recent boxing ppv cards.

For u to say that the top mma guys such as Fedor, George St Pierre, Anderson Silva, BJ Penn, and many others have no skill, and what they practice is "unskilled bar brawls", then you are an ignorant fool.Comment

i watched the royce gracie - kazushi sakuraba grappling match that lasted an hour and half. there was hardly any striking , just grappling and i was enthralled.
some guys like football , some like soccer. different tastes.
some mma fans like me watch the technique of brazilian jiu-jitsu and wrestling...... some like the red neck , barroom brawl type fights.
to each his own. i find punching and kicking in mma boring and sloppy. if i want to see striking i'll watch boxing or even pro muay thai fights.Comment

the different matchup of styles make it look sloppy or part of their game that makes it sloppy.
if you see jiu-jitsu guys in bjj matches you wouldn't think it wasn't refined.
if you see wrestlers in a match you wouldn't think it wasn't refined.
the problem is when you got jiu-jitsu guys trying to box.
or wrestlers trying to kick. or kickboxers trying to grapple.
they're good in their individual specialties and have excellent techniques but when they try to do other aspects of mma they might look like a fish out of water.Comment

Okami/Lister was supposed to be great by Lister stank up the place while leaving Okami to hold the smelly bag. Lister just pulled guard most of the time.you liked last night's show , deevel?
