My point was that if Mayweather threw as many punches as Nard, he would have gotten hit more than Nard did. As we saw later in his career, when Nard slowed down the pace he was just as elusive as Floyd.

His defense as always been that good. He didn't magically get better. People don't give the young Hopkins the credit he deserves.

His defense has not always been that good, as Bouie Fisher said, Hopkins was a work in progress, he didn't become the great defensive fighter he has become until he was in his mid-30s.

And Mayweather did throw more punches when he was younger and in the lower weight divisions and he didn't get hit as much as Hopkins did.

I dont really think Hopkins is all that good defensively. He uses dirty tactics and he holds all the time.

If you can point me to a fight where Bernard had a less than stellar defense, I will agree that you are right. However, I have a feeling you can't do that.

              Segundo Mercado.

His defense was not nearly as good when he was 30 as compared to when he was 34 or 35, not to say his defense was bad but it wasn't on the same level as his own a few years later or Mayweather's at 30.

Mayweather, and easily. In fact I am prepared to argue that Mayweather is in the top 3 greatest defensive fighters that has ever laced them up.

Just how good is Mayweather defensively?

"Those who argue that Mayweather is boxing’s best all-around fighter point to his dominance over his opposition. Few fighters have ever been as statistically superior to his opponents than Mayweather, who rarely loses rounds, much less fights. A recent CompuBox analysis determined that the “Pretty Boy” leads the sport in “plus-minus” rating – and not by a little. The “plus-minus” is the difference between a fighter’s average connect percentage and that of his opponents, and Mayweather’s plus-30 (46 percent to 16 percent)"

"Mayweather’s rating compares favorably to the prime Roy Jones (plus-23) and Pernell Whitaker (plus-16). For the record, Hatton’s rating is a plus-five (34 percent to 29 percent), which is tied for 16th with Jones, Bernard Hopkins, Joe Calzaghe and Juan Manuel Marquez."

Floyd's opponent's average connect percentage is 16%, compared to 24% for Bernard.

Not only is it clear cut, just by watching, that Floyd gets hit the least out of anyone in the sport, the stats also support this argument.

floyd mayweather by an inch because while b-hop will not get hit and be very elusive he can also be outboxed while being elusive

when floyd fights boxers he outboxes them. ex: de la hoya, judah,

when b-hop fights boxers he cannot be elusive he has to brawl, which leads to getting hit. ex: roy jones, jermain taylor,.......gasp...... joe calzaghe
