Pacquiao vs. Cotto is Possible, Says Evangelista

After Manny Pacquiao stopped Oscar De La Hoya on December 6 in Las Vegas, many began to ponder how Pacquiao would do against some of the top welterweights in the division. One name the continues to come up is former two division champion Miguel Cotto. Cotto is considered a small welterweight and moved up from 140-pounds, where Pacquiao will now campaign. The two fighters are similiar in height and share the same reach at 67-inches. Both fighters are also under contract with the same promotional company, Top Rank. [details]

i would watch this fight. cotto i think would be a little too much for manny, but you never know in this sport. manny, imo, could win against margarito if he hit and ran all night, his stamina is good enough for it. of course, i think tony could stop pacman by brutal destruction.

The only way this happens is IF, and thats a big IF...Cotto gets by Margarito.

I honestly don't see that happening, as much as I like Cotto.

There was hardly any room for improvement in their first fight, and I see the rematch ending in similar fashion.

This won't happen, Arum won't, it'll a gamble for him, if Cotto fails it will have a huge impact on Cotto's career which is not good for Aurum. Also this isn't the right fight moneywise and risk for PAC at the moment. But I would really love this fight if ever this will happen.

I Love the fight! Margarito first and foremost for Cotto tho! Manny should handle his buisness with JMM too and Ricky Hatton makes for a great fight too and one his chances are better in then Obviously theres Floyd

I find it funny in the article how they call Cotto a "small welterweight". That is bull****, Cotto is a big welterweight, he was just a ridiculously monstrous and dehydrated junior welterweight. He has only moved up one weightclass since the start of his career, going from junior welterweight to welterweight, and he had to because he wasn't making JWW for much longer.

Pacquiao is coming up from 106. It is tough for me to ever doubt Pacquiao again, but to try to pass this fight off as an even remotely even size matchup is ridiculous.

it would be amazing if Pac went 3-3 in 09 with a win over Hatton, JMM, and Cotto. How would he not be top 20 or even 15 with that?

People need to calm down. Like other posters have mentioned, we have to see if he can get by Margarito first. Nobody is sure how much that first fight took out of him so we can't be positive he isn't going to take another beating even with a better game-plan. If Cotto does beat Margarito, would there be a third fight, and if so, that will probably be another war and they will retire each other. If Margarito blasts Cotto out in the second fight, would Margarito be an option for Pac?
                    Why pick and choose, right?
