I don't know, I've never paid attention to toughman contests.

What I can say is this, flash grabs the eye's attention, but isn't always as effective as substance.

In pro boxing, it isn't always about winning rounds. How many times have you seen a durable fighter give away rounds in order to put pressure on the other guy so he could wear him down?

It happens, and it happens a lot.

There are some people that could argue that if Cotto had made it to the bell he would have had a chance to win on the cards.

The only problem with that argument is, there was no way in hell Cotto was making it out of that round, let alone to the final bell.

With a mop or with Miguel Cotto, like he did in Vegas?

Not a Cotto hater, but no matter how much it hurts this 0 skill guy beat Miguel Cotto, and trying to belittle his abilities does very little for the few Cotto fans who feel the need to do so.

Like he mopped the ring with Cotto's face?

So did the punishment to Cotto's hands by hitting Margarito force his face to swell and bleed from multiple cuts, and coerce him to go down on his own accord?

Or did it have to do with Margarito's superior conditioning and punching power.

Margarito actually has traditionally suffered many more cuts than Cotto, but for some reason his face didn't open up.

and like devel said, Cotto outclassed him for the 1st 6 or 7 rounds, he made him look an absolute fool at times
If he doesn't have ring generalship, how is he able to drag fighters into fighting his kind of fight?

His ability to throw punches from all angles is a part of great boxing ability. His superb conditioning is a part of his great boxing ability. His ability to throw more punches than his opponent is a part of his great boxing ability.

Sometimes people make it seem that Tony is just some caveman with a club.

Margarito outclassed Cotto for the last half of the fight and made Miguel look like an absolute fool.

As I've said before, I'm not a fan of either fighter. I just don't like it how people try and take credit where credit is due. There are no accidents in boxing, you don't slip fall and knock someone's teeth out. Everything in boxing is willed.

I seem to be one of the few in this thread, for either side, who has no axe to grind or allegiance to one fighter or another.

Cotto completely outskilled Margarito, that should've been apparent to everyone. Margarito just has a superior chin and a great work rate. I'm not dogging Margs at all, I think he's a very good fighter with a great chin.

no im not really a Cotto or a Marg fan... i like/respect both fighters but neither are one of my favs by any means

If he's so limited, why is he beating these guys? Why is Cotto, with his vastly superior technique, unable to make the final bell?
my point wasnt that it requires one punch knockout power to be an elite fighter, thats just one aspect Tyson possessed that made him in your words a very potent offensive fighter

in the Cotto fight Marg simply outlasted him. I was actually amazed at how Cotto was boxing his ears off... it wasnt until the 8th or 9th round when you started thinking wtf is Marg on? he aint going nowhere and this is Cotto punching him!

Marg did what he's suppose to do and kept fighting, kept coming. The fact is if Cotto had lasted one more round we would have seen him walk away with a SD or MD, but Marg was able to stop him and i give him his just dos for that

Nationality and race plays too much of a role for most people on this sight, they just can't seem to give credit to a guy that beat someone from their favorite fighter. If you only saw xcaret's posts and didnt watch boxing you'd think Pacquiao only fought 40 year old, overweight Mexicans.

Like I've said before, this site used to be one for boxing fans who were fans of the sport not just fighters who come from where they do, lately it's more nuthugging than anything else.

My 2 favorite fighters are Mexican, but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate the other great fighters the sport has to offer.
