Mikkel Kessler has replaced Joe Calzaghe in my top 5 favorite active fighters.
A question for the Calzaghe fanboys!

I give Joe his credit, though I did had Bernard beating him 114-113. I just don't like his attitude, it's equally as ugly as Hopkins' can be, only in a Mayweather like fashion.
Also, I don't care for Joe's style. But hey, as long as it works for him.Comment

When he chooses to fight yeh. Disapointed you'd think just cos I'm a Calzaghe fan I couldn't be. I've said for weeks that the way he conducted himself and fought for the Pavlik fight, was very impressive. What he did outside the ring with that dying kid, and staring out the press, made it a very inspiring win.
When he spoke of what his tactics were, he showed for me the best boxing brain, and tactician skills in the game. He studied Pavlik, knew what movements would work, make it hard to pull the trigger and land, and he fought a perfect fight.
His defensive skills can be pretty impressive, I enjoyed his Tito, ODL and Johnson fights the most. He looked bad against Calzaghe and Eastman.Comment

It's a shock because there's only roughly 5 Calzaghe fans on the entire planet who give Hopkins credit. By the same standard, there's about 5 Hopkins fans who give Joe credit.

I'm like you in that I don't like his style or some of the racier comments he made ealier in his career which where pretty disrespectful but I refuse to stand by and watch people be hypocrits when discussing him.Comment

I had no idea, kudos for being an honest fan of the sport, and not just a fan of the fighter(s). That's very respectable.
I also liked what Hopkins did for Roy, after the loss to Calzaghe, when he visited with him in his dressing room and talked with him and his sons.
Joe and Bernard both looked bad in their fight, and Eastman was pretty bad as well.
Did Roy officially retire yet? Or is he still mulling it over?Comment

Add me to the list, I think Bhop probably has the best resume of any active boxer, then I'm more an anti-Joe hater's than a real joe fan.

His arrogant swagger killed it for me too. It's Mayweather-esque, or even prime Roy like in nature. That's why I never liked those guys either. But I've recently come to respect Floyd and Joe, right around the same time.
Their personality is severe lacking, but their ring skills sure as hell aren't.Comment

I have to be honest........... I know alot of boxing fans, but no one who is a great Calzaghe fan. I even know welsh guys that hate watching him fight but always bigs him up to other boxing fans.
To answer the question, I think people who used to follow Joe will now follow Carl Froch and Ricky Hatton.Comment
