You do know that at the time of that Video Cotto was the WBO Juniorwelter champ and considered the weakest of the champs at that time right?

If anything that video just proves that Mayweather was still only intrested in fighting the weaker of the 140 champions ******.
floyd had 17 fights when he challenged genaro hernandez who was unbeaten at 130 for 14 years.

how many fights did cotto have under his belt when floyd was at 140 with him.

Doesnt matter. Floyd had no interest in fighting Cotto at 140. He said so himself. Floyd: "Cotto is still too green. He needs a few more tune-ups". Those were the words of Floyd when asked about a fight with Cotto at 140.

based on oscar's record at 154 would you consider him a medicore or strong 154 champion.
your attempts to hype dlh are horrible, like i said dlh was pretty much 1-3 going into the floyd fight 1-2 at 154. I would rather hype up hatton before dlh and hatton is hard to hype since he has no business at 147 and the collazo fight, then vacating and going back down to 140 proved that.

NEW YORK -- It might be time for Miguel Cotto to head west.

At the end of his journey could be a huge payday and a unification of the welterweight title.

The WBA champion defended his crown Saturday night with a sensational unanimous decision over a relentless Shane Mosley. It was Cotto's fourth fight at Madison Square Garden, which has become a home away from home for the Puerto Rican champ.

It's unlikely, though, that the winner of the WBC championship match next month between titleholder Floyd Mayweather and Ricky Hatton will walk into such an environment to face Cotto. Particularly Mayweather.

"I'll fight any big names: Oscar (De La Hoya), Mayweather, Hatton, anyone top-ranked, whatever the company tells me," Cotto said after his 31st straight win. "I'm ready for the big names. No excuses. What the company wants me to do."

His company, through promoter Bob Arum, usually matches up Cotto with dangerous fighters. There's none more dangerous than Mayweather, most likely in Las Vegas.

"The fans, the company, my staff are great," the 27-year-old Cotto said. "I am ready for anyone."

But Mayweather first has to deal with Hatton, then decide if he wants to remain at 147 pounds or move up. Wherever Mayweather is, provided he has a title, that's where the big money will be.

Cotto likes the weight class, believing it benefits his strengths, which included a surprisingly effective jab on Saturday.

"The jab made the difference in this fight to get out and get a victory," he said. "I feel stronger in this division. The extra seven pounds really helps."

The 36-year-old Mosley now is 44-5, with all of his losses to champions: Cotto, Winky Wright and Vernon Forrest. But he also owns victories over De La Hoya and Fernando Vargas and put on a terrific display against Cotto.

He also works for De La Hoya's promotion company, so he has options.

"I have to watch the film to determine whether I should hang them up or keep going," Mosley said. "Watch the film and see what I look like."

He looked pretty good. Still, Mosley wavered: "I'm planning on putting on my promoter's hat. I am not getting any younger."

The action was furious from the outset through the end of the bout. That led both Mosley and Cotto to praise each other's determination.

"I never felt like I was going down," Mosley said. "I felt the buzz; I never thought I was going to go down.

"I hit him with some body shots and some other shots. He's a tough guy to hit, he's a really strong boxer."

Added Cotto: "He's still Shane Mosley, still a great fighter."

Asked if this was his toughest fight, Cotto paused before saying, "Some moments in the fight it seemed like that."

But there surely will be tough fights ahead, particularly if the Mayweather-Hatton winner is in Cotto's future. That wouldn't happen before next spring.

And it would be shocking if it happened in Cotto's favorite arena.

Cotto was welcomed home by scores of fans chanting his name Sunday at Luis Munos Marin International Airport in San Juan.

"It was worth the trouble, all the sacrifice," he said at a news conference after arriving to shouts of "Cotto! Cotto!"

Secretary of State Fernando Bonilla, who praised Cotto for "demonstrating what it is to be a great Puerto Rican," was among the government officials on hand.

Police cleared the way for the champ's victory ride to his hometown of Caguas, a small city south of San Juan.
