The fix was in on that ****. Joe was going to whip their ass but it would've completely destroyed the myth that black guys are dead in the water. So he did the right thing for comedy's sake and let the myth live on.

And you make 2 really great points there as well.

1.) About it being a tiring defense. You must have stamina like a machine to be able to constantly bob and weave under shots like that for the full 3 minutes of every round, for 36 minutes straight.

2.) About it being hard to counter afterwards. Even without the headgear, you're in a crouch almost, and you're likely at eye level with your opponet's stomach or chest, so finding the target after a successful duck would be hard as hell. By the time you get focused and look up, the target will most likely be on the move.
I think it is natural. I still practice it cause practice makes perfect. For the second one its hard to counter with headgear. I can counter without it well. You gotta expose your chin a little cause your head is sticking out but thats what the gloves on the chin are for.

Yeah, I'm sure practice will perfect the style. But what I mean is you have to have those instincts naturally. Take me for example, I could train that style for 4 hours a day, 7 days a week, and I still don't think I would get used to the constant bob and weave motions.

But if you take to it naturally it can be a real beast of a style. Why do you think nobody uses it anymore? Or nobody on the big stage anyway. If memory serves me correct Tyson was the last guy to use it.

So it's easier to land a counter without the gear on then? I imagine you have to have good reflexes to pop up with a counter in time even without the gear though.

But you're the fighter here, not me. I'm just generally interested in the style. I hope to see you on TV one day rockin' that ****.

Vers, you should read Fraziers autobiography. Its a great read. I found it at my local library. There you'll read why he has such a great left hook.

Good reflexs? Yeah, more like good time though. I kinda anticipate when they're about to throw and I already have in my head whats coming out. I hope TV too.haha. I haven't boxed for half a year. I might do Golden Gloves as my last amateur fights cause with that headgear its a handicap for my style.

Yeah I've seen your videos in the training forum. You're style is much better suited as a professional. You either clearly outwork the guy and get ripped off, or the dude fakes a low blow and bitches to the referee. That was pitiful. As a pro you won't have that handicap and it will be a much more level playing field.

Honestly, I don't think Ali would've gotten up off his stool to begin the final round. Joe wanted to go the distance, but it was Eddie Futch who put his hand on Joe's chest and told him it was over. No fault to Futch, Joe was going through hell just as Ali was, and he was looking out for Joe.

But Ali said after the fight that it was as close to death as he's ever come in his life, and had Frazier gotten off his stool and answered the bell, part of me wonders if Ali would've been able to do the same.
