It's unnecessary. He might have more fans if he dropped the money act. Skills are undeniable. All he needs to do is let his hands do the talking.

bad? its good for boxing. Mayweather may be a goofball, but people remember him for the ridiculous way he acts, and in time they grow to understand how incredibly skilled he is.

very few fighters even have a persona to be remembered by, good or bad.

besides, what very well known people are actually well mannered and arent controversial? theres not too many, Ill tell you that. Tyson might have had an insane life and done a bunch of ridiculous stuff, but that doesnt stop him from getting the biggest cheers of the night whenever hes shown on TV, whether it be in America or Germany.

I would think that in the case of Mayweather, people often overlook his skills, and focus soley on his antics. Which I would argue, is not a very good thing.

throughout the history of boxing the most famous fighters were not necessarily the most skilled, but the ones with the most memorable storylines/personalities. not everyone loves boxing the way we do...and to become a huge name sports personality you need to attract the attention of people that normally dont care about boxing. Mayweather does that to a degree.

Oscar didn't do it. He's the richest guy in boxing and sells the most PPV's. Pac is the nicest guy in the world and he's a well-respected worldwide superstar.

Nah not really, I would guess that most boxing fans don't like that kind of image, so it makes them want to see him lose.

I think what a lot of people either ignore or don't notice is that Oscar De La Hoya is focused as much if not more on money than Mayweather and he is very popular. Unlike Mayweather, Oscar doesn't flaunt his interest in money, but it is obvious to any real fan. All of his undercards are garbage because he refuses to pay the undercard fighters anything. He pays his opponents as little as he can. The Pacquaio fight almost didn't take place because Oscar refused to give Pacquaio more than 30 percent of the revenue, which means Oscar would have received 70 percent. The only reason he wanted to fight Pacquaio is because of the amount of money he knew it woud generate for him. He saw it as a low risk fight. He was obviously wrong The same applies to Ricky Hatton. He knows he woudl have made a ton of money against Hatton fighting in Wembley stadium vs very little risk. Mayweather ended up making about $30 million off the ODLH fight after all the revenue came in. Oscar made three times that amount. That is what drives Oscar. He is greedy, selfish and more harmful to the sport than Mayweather's "money" persona could ever be.

Oscar is the huge ppv star that he is because of that Gold Medal deal with his dead mother, plus the fact that girls think hes good lookin. Im not saying that his accomplishments in the ring didnt affect that either...but without the first two things he wouldnt be nearly as big as he is today.

                  Pacquiao Ill give you.

if everyone was like that how boring would the boxing world be outside the ring

it needs a variety of characters, Floyd's attitude indears him to some, alienates a lot, but he's a character and an interesting one at that

No not at all, it gives boxing more attention. But he overdoes it, and just looks ****** in the end. But people would have said the same thing about Ali too.
