Why is Dawson giving Tarver a rematch, but not Johnson?

Looks like it may even be televised by HBO:

For some reason HBO prefers the Dawson-Tarver rematch over Taylor-Froch?

According to the site that talks about boxing, HBO wants Taylor to fight either Kessler or Wright in March.

Tarver had a rematch clause, Johnson didn't.

Apparently, there was a rematch clause in the Tarver contract. So it's not really up to Dawson, I strongly doubt he wants to fight Tarver again.

Actually as someone stated in another thread, Johnson was not Dawson's mandatory so he didn't need to give him anything, and a rematch was clause was not in the contract. Tarver was champion, and there was a clause.

I guess HBO is figuring that people just know Tarver more, so it'd be a better way to introduce their audience to Dawson. It's the wrong rematch though, I agree. And it's not like their first one even drew a crowd either. I think there was less than 1500 people there.

Mandatory challengers don't get a rematch clause. A rematch clause is something that can be negotiated for when a fighter is not a mandatory, like the Tarver-Dawson fight.

Since the sanctioning body makes the mandatories, they can't force you to fight someone but they can strip you of the belt for ducking your mandatory.

Though I agree, it makes no sense but Dawson had to take the fight or be tied up in litigation for breach of contract.

I thought 2009 wasn't going to have ****** fights right at the start. How silly of me.
