Also Billy Graham was 10% with Hatton for every single fight.

When you've got trainers like Graham that are multi-millionaires, you know you're in trouble.

its not just boxers, its athletes in general.

These guys play these sports since they were toddlers... they get bored. Their only real motivation is to make more money

Because most of the fighters who fought because they loved fighting have ended up broke, it's a sad thing to say but it's the truth, I don't really blame fighters now for looking out for themselves because they pretty much have nothing when they retire.

To make it as a professional athlete today, you need to have been doing it since u were a tiny child.

And because uve been doing it for so long, u get bored of it like you'd get bored of anything.

So the only thing keeping them hungry after a certain point, is getting more money

Were just lucky there is film's, newspaper reports and books of legends like Jack Johnson, Sam Langford, Stanley Ketchel, Joe Gans, Joe Walcot, Archie Moore, Charley Burley, Henry Armstrong, Ray Robinson, Carlos Monzon, Ali, Fraizer and Holmes now they were fighters! But sadly possibly the best of the lot Harry Greb there is no footage! We need a throw back to take boxing by storm! some one who is cut from the same cloth as the fighters above, not like these fighters today mayweather and co, even margreatio sold out and was all about the dollar in the end.
What makes you think fighters of the past were not about money?

Sugar Ray Robinson in considered the greatest ever and he had little problem admitting he was about the money. He said "I never enjoyed boxing, this is a business for me". He priced himself out of countless fights and was so despised in boxing for his business tactics that many believe it was the reason he was awarded a draw against Gene Fullmer later in his career when he apparently should've won clearly. He came back to the sport after his businesses in Harlem, and his dancing career, failed.

Charley Burley even said he didn't blame Ray Robinson for not fighting him. He understood the business aspect, and said if he were in the position of power, that he wouldn't have taken the risk to fight Robinson.

Larry Holmes is also honest about being about the money. He was interviewed by The Ring and asked what he missed about the sport the most. He even spelled it out "M-O-N-E-Y". He gave up his WBC belt because he could get paid more to fight someone else (I think Marvis Frazier).

Jack Johnson? Why do you think he defended his title against the top white challengers instead of the leading black challengers? Fear? Obviously not, he had already fought the black contenders numerous times. Money, of course.

It's a different time period so guys had to fight more often in the past. The HW champs generally got paid a lot, so you see how infrequent a lot of the champs were in defending their titles (pre-Louis). Hell, Dempsey even took 3 years off from the sport and tried to do films instead. It's nothing really new, it's the circumstances surrounding that have changed. If Ray Robinson, who has been described as a great, great negotiator were around today, and said he didn't like boxing, I have little doubt that he'd be sitting on a comfy HBO contract rather than fighting 10 times a year.

Because this is the real world, where boxers have real problems and real responsibilities. These guys have to do what they have to to secure their own and their families future.
