So, old guy Calzaghe (almost 37) at the very end of his career gets slated for fighting older guys, and apparently needs to fight a young guy who beat nobody but two 40 year-olds deserves a fight with old guy Calzaghe and barely anyone even knows who the young guy is, and old guy Calzaghe doesn't even make the kind of money he is looking for at this stage in his career? And apart from that, old guy Calzaghe is almost certain to retire anyway?

Yeah, makes complete sense! Dawson wants a pay day by attempting to fight an old guy who's not far off 40, when really he should be concentrating on proving himself by AT LEAST rematching and beating old guy Johnson who arguably beat him and got robbed. And it's now old guy Calzaghe who needs to prove himself?

      **** off Chad, you vulture.

Hmm when calz was 34-35 beating kessler he wasnt old, and kessler diddnt really prove himself execpt to the UK fans. Joe Vultured 2 wins( 1 disputed) win fight two 40 year olds

same ol **** just a differnt diaper

You can't complain that boxing is dying when you've just had a fight that many feel was bad for the sport, and you are probably going to turn down a fight that many feel is good for the sport.

And I don't see any problem with Calzaghe-Hopkins, Dawson-Johnson or Dawson-Tarver. Nothing wrong with beating a 40 year old guy if he's one of the best in the division. It's only a problem when the 40 year old guy in question is without a notable win in several years that I'd criticise the matchup(ie. Roy Jones).
Great post. That's all we ask for - objectivity when something is so blatantly obvious - not defiantly fighting the corner of your favourite fighter, regardless of what happens or is said.

Because, to be perfectly frank, some of the sychophantic posts in this thread border on the sickening. Daggum practically gave a perfect riposte to every ******ed point made. I mean, to bring up ****ing Dianconu....jeez.

        Embarassing.

His last fight was the Byrd fight, in May.
It says in the presser that he had a fight fall through because he injured his hand in training.

If Joe C is retiring. Then he should keep his opinions to himself. Period! I'm not sure if everyone read the article, but George is calling out the younger contenders in the division. "Night of the Young Light Heavyweights". What's wrong with that? Sounds like he just has a problem with the comment Joe C said about boxing is dying. I have a problem with that as well. People are alway trying to put down the sport of boxing. I'm tired of that too.

Why? As a retiring P4P top ten he's entitled to give his opinion of the business, he's got a damn sight more knowledge of the subject than you do and has no reason to pull any punches.

Burying your head in teh sand instead of addressing glaring issues in the sport does both the sport and the fans a disservice.

If we continue to Ignore the porblems they will stop being minor problems and start becoming cancers that Kill the sport

I for one would rather complain now and have a sport to watch rather than play dumb and watch the sport go down the swaney.
