What should Paulie Malignaggi do now?

I'm probably a little late on this, but seeing as how I haven't been active much recently i'd like some opinions.

After his loss to Hatton, what do you think Paulie should do?

I'm not sure, when he can use both hands he is a very good boxer. But the constant hand injurys mean he pretty much never can, so is there really much point carrying on?

I doubt he will ever get back to the level he fought up to (Winning the World Title, Hatton etc), and I doubt that Paulies ego will be able to take that.

I'm not a fan of Paulie, infact I would say I pretty much hate him But, he is tough as hell and I would like to see him back in the ring. But, like I said, I doubt he will be able to fight at the top level unless he can get his hands sorted out.

Paulie has a lot of pride, but no more ego than you need to fight for a living (ie. a healthy amount).

I'm still nonplussed at how anyone can claim to dislike the Magic Man. Once you get past the surface, he's an incredibly likeable individual with articulate and insightful views on the sport. And classy, in victory or defeat. When he outpointed Ngoudjo, he made a point of praising Herman's performance and highlighting the ways he had been surprised and impressed by it. When he lost to Cotto and Hatton, he praised both their performances. The pre-fight trash volleys are as much pep-talks to himself as anything else. Some fighters just need that to get the self belief and confidence running through their veins, some don't, different strokes for different folks. But Malignaggi is definitely good folks. Open up your hearts, people. Paul is an exceptional young man.


It's just a big shame that those fragile hands really do seem to have been the bane of his career so far.

from what i remember, i think he said his hands were fine against hatton, just that he couldnt pull the trigger coz he was scared to break em again. taking a tune up fight is the best for him, see if he can get over his mental issues.

As long as he doesn't have to hold that heavy blow drier, I'd say become a hair dresser.

I don't see him carrying on much really, I think he hinted he might only have one or two fights a few months back, especially if he lost.

I think with no power, and risking breaking his hands all the time, his team have done well pitching him against the right people, to get him this far. But he was always going to come un done really.

Also his problems are high lighted in every fight, any boxer out there now would simply almost definitely have no fear and roller coaster into him scoring and hurting at will. It's almost as if his cover has been blown. Some thought maybe there is some kind of small bomb that could do some damage at least if you get too close. But that really isn't the case, he can't hurt anyone, except Amir Khan.

That's gotta hurt, or not I'm not sure.

To be honest, it's not Paulies trash talk that makes me dislike him. I'm just not a fan of his style, i'm more into fighters who have some pop in their punches, and the boxer style fighters I like (Such as Mayweather) I enjoy watching more so because of their leading with power shots, as opposed to Paulies jab based style.

As for his ego, all I meant was after fighting up to a world title, fighting in front of 50K in the Ndou rematch, then the huge Hatton fight, then dropping to a lower class of opponent. I'm sure that would hurt any fighters pride, not just Paulie.

I haven't been around a lot recently so I hadn't heard that, I just assumed he had damamged his hand. Although, the end result was the same, he couldn't fight 2 handed. It's a shame really, when you look at what he can do when he can use both hands (Like the first Ndou fight).

A two-handed Paulie can be a legitimate joy to watch, though, like in the first N'dou fight you cited. That's the Malignaggi I'm always hoping to see, the reason, besides his guttiness, that I follow his fights. Hope he can get back to that level of confidence and start using both hands freely again, because if not, like you said, things aren't looking that bright for him.
